There's a version of you that exists in the future that knows far more than you do now. A version of you who has more information about a problem you have than the current you. Placing your faith and trust in this future, you can allow yourself to surrender and let go of control in the now. You simply cannot have all the answers before things have a chance to unfold. Welcome back into this series on anxiety.

We are covering all things anxiety,

How our mind works,

How our feelings work when we're feeling anxious and I want to give you as many tips and tools that I use in my therapy practice to help you with the big huge subject that is anxiety.

So today what I'm going to be talking to you about is a practice that I call Trusting Future You.

So Trusting Future You is all about being able to put things,

Put worries,

Put anxieties,

Put fears into the hands of a future version of yourself.

So how you use this is,

Well actually let's just break it down.

So basically what will happen when we're worrying and when we're fearing things is that usually we're fearing from a place where we simply don't have all the answers and we simply are kind of coming from quite a limited place.

So let's take an example of perhaps you are about to move and perhaps you're buying a home and all of a sudden during that process everything's going wrong.

There's a problem with the structure of the house you're about to buy,

There is a problem with your solicitors,

There is a potential that actually maybe you're going to lose your job and that comes out of nowhere and then how would you even buy the house or afford the house you're about to buy and imagine this kind of situation where all these things are worrying you,

Causing you to feel stress and maybe causing you to feel anxious.

What we might do in a situation like this is obviously all the things that we might practice in a space like this,

Everything to draw upon but one of the things you might want to start to integrate into your toolbox is this sense of okay I have no idea what to do right now and I can only see disaster and I can only see all the things that are going wrong but I know that's not the end of the road because it kind of can't be and so there's a version of me that exists on a different timeline in let's say six months time,

A year's time and they have answers that I don't currently have.

They have answers about what we did,

How we figured it out,

What actually ended up going right,

What went wrong but we had to adapt to,

We had to work with.

There is a future you that exists all the time whether you believe they physically already exist literally in a future timeline and we're getting into more of the metaphysics of that right now but either way just this idea that in six months time there's a version of you that knows more than you do and there's a version of you that you almost have to put your faith and your trust in in certain moments to deal with it.

I know I had to do this when I experienced so much going wrong in my life and that was to do with home and house and a big breakup and everything that could go wrong felt like it went wrong in my life at that time and remember in some ways this coming in and me sort of saying okay there is a version of me in however long,

I didn't know how long at that time but there is a version of me that sees me going through the motions of this or has seen me go through this,

Has seen me deal with this and deal with the aftermath of it and she has way more answers than I do right now like because we can drive ourself almost crazy of trying to find out all the answers how does this end up going and how is this going and what about this and what about that and this is when we you know those times when it's like you physically don't know the answers because they literally do not exist yet whereas if I think in that point in my life there was a version of me in I would say exactly about 18 months or two years from then who knew way more than the me in the middle of the crisis knew and she didn't have all the answers don't get me wrong like me right now doesn't have all the answers or this version of me that I'm talking about she didn't have all the answers but she knew more and could see more than the me in the thick of the crisis could see and she did pull me through it you know I did get to that place so I got to a much a much different place and so in a way it's can I put my faith in and at the time can I put my faith in me in 18 months time who is going to know far more and be far wiser than me in this very moment right now we can do this for big things small things and big life-changing altering events like that versus just small stuff just okay me in a week's time is gonna know more about this work stress than me right now knows it's gonna I'm gonna have had to have figured something out I'm gonna have had to have gone through whatever I've gone through and so I trust so what we might declare is we might say I trust future me I trust future me she's got it I leave it in her hands and I surrender a bit like how in prayer we might surrender to that which is bigger than ourselves to the divine to god to however you see that in prayer what's so powerful about prayer is we recognize us being limited and not needing to be in control again control at work control will come up everywhere of anxiety because control and anxiety are so intertwined during prayer we surrender and we say I give my fears I give my worries over to something bigger than me whether that's just consciousness itself life itself and in a way of this practice we're doing the same but we're doing it to ourselves we're saying I give over to you I give over to you scarlet in two years time to get me through this I give it over to you that you'll have answers that I don't have right now and you'll see things that I don't see right now how beautiful is that how bowering is that and it allows you to just take some pressure off yourself to say okay well I'm not expected to because future me knows that future me holds this not me I don't have a crystal ball I don't know what she knows and this starts to really empower you to build more trust in yourself and maybe do this alongside the worry jar exercise that I teach have a listen to that if you haven't already because this shows you just how much after just one month how much things you do solve or have solved or just works out and again I'll leave you with that do what you need to with that draw upon it if you feel it could be helpful and I'll see you again soon in another meditation a track of course
