My name is Sengit and today I have something to tell you.
More and more we hear and we see the term inner child being heavily used in the spiritual field.
Many of us use it to speak about whatever trauma from our childhood needs to be addressed.
Basically it is said that we have an inner child and that it relates to everything that makes us joyful and playful.
And if that joy and that playfulness happen to be absent and we have experienced some sort of torment in the past,
We then say that our inner child has been suppressed or abused.
The same goes vice-versa when that joy and playfulness are fully expressed.
It is said that it is our inner child coming out.
And as beautiful and poetic as this may sound,
In reality this goes way beyond this soft appearance and it can very well bring us confusion and even serious repercussions.
And for this reason we are going deeper.
By saying that we have an inner child,
We are saying that we have an extra identity attached to us that remains apart.
Supposedly we are speaking of us as teenagers,
Adults or seniors with inner children,
Not of us as children,
Because to those we simply call children,
Right?
This means that as we become teenagers,
The children that we once were separate from whoever we become afterwards and gain life on its own,
Forever expressing whatever was imprinted on them,
Good or bad.
So,
According to this,
As we become teenagers,
Adults or seniors,
We all carry an inner child alive inside of us,
Usually demanding for attention and healing.
Knowing this,
We could now ask two questions.
First,
Where is the inner teenager,
Adult or senior?
Don't we absorb limiting beliefs and get traumatized during those phases as well?
Or should we blame the childhood for everything that happens throughout our lives?
Second,
What makes us think that having fun and playing is only related to children?
Is it that abnormal for teenagers,
Adults or seniors to play and to have fun to the point that we have to justify it with the appearance of an inner child?
Now,
What does having an inner child really mean and imply?
To have something means that we possess an external thing and therefore it is not considered to be us.
However,
In this case,
It is not the same as having a house or a car.
The concept of inner child doesn't relate to an object that we possess and that has nothing to do with us or with our identity.
It is in fact describing a portion of us that we possess instead of being,
Since we say we have an inner child instead of saying we are an inner child.
And this is the tricky and risky part.
This concept relates to an inner child that is us without truly being,
Which makes it be more like a separated entity that comes out as and whenever they want and therefore completely out of our control.
For this,
I will give you a practical example that shows us how manipulating and distorting this can go.
Once I was part of a group of people who had the intention to express themselves through dancing.
Then,
One of its members broke one of the rules by being physically invasive in a very specific way to another member,
Which happened to be me.
Now,
While this incident was being addressed or poorly addressed,
One of the members said that that was nothing but their inner child coming out.
And although this may have sounded very wise and free-spirited,
In reality,
What it was,
Was a complete discard of that person's responsibility for their actions.
Assuming that they were not the one who acted disrespectfully,
Their inner child was,
And that it was all with the purpose of playing and having fun,
Which left us with no space for accountability and with full space for unsafety and future unconscious and harmful behaviors of any kind.
And by now,
We would ask,
Do we even have an inner child?
And the answer is no,
Of course not.
We are souls,
Energy,
Light,
Whatever we want to call it,
And children,
Teenagers,
Adults,
Seniors,
Are only terms to help us identifying phases of life according to human's age,
Which is totally irrelevant in what comes to who we really are as a whole.
No matter what human phase we are in,
We are always us,
Souls,
Energy,
Light,
Or whatever we want to call it.
Who we are,
What we do,
With more or less pain and trauma,
No matter what name we give,
It is always us,
No one else,
With no additions,
No divisions,
No subtractions.
And yes,
We hear many theories,
Concepts,
And ideas.
We hear everybody speaking about so many things,
And sometimes we forget that every theory,
Concept,
And idea are just things that someone,
Just like us,
Mentioned or wrote about.
And yes,
Some of those things we can agree or resonate with,
But even if we do,
That doesn't make them absolute truths to be followed or to be repeated.
So,
Today,
Let's remain complete,
As a whole,
No matter our past,
Our present,
Or our future.
And let's have fun,
As we are,
Regardless of our age.
We are ageless beings,
And all the terms in the world are only made up to help us communicate and express ourselves.
And we,
And only we,
Have the power to let them be just that,
And nothing more.
