Settle in,
Giddy up,
Let's work on change.
Find a quiet space,
Free of distractions and get still.
Today's meditation invites you to embrace the inevitability of change.
It is the only thing that is guaranteed.
The only thing that is guaranteed is change.
So we'll be acknowledging the present moment,
The change you're going through,
And finding some ways to open up to the transformative journey that lies ahead.
Now picture yourself beside a flowing river.
And the water in that river represents the currents of change.
And take a moment and just notice the state of your river.
If you're listening to this meditation,
That river might be a class five rapid.
It might feel scary,
Like it is gushing through your life,
Tearing out branches and trees and rocks,
Causing a wake of destruction in its path.
And as you observe this river in your life,
Just notice and acknowledge any and all emotions that come with it.
You may notice those emotions and even thoughts,
Perhaps even memories,
Floating by and down this river like a log passing down,
Down this waterway,
A boulder floating by.
Just notice it.
As all of these aspects of your life float down this river of change.
Change can feel chaotic,
Uprooting.
While we all hope that change feels gentle and simple and slow,
There are many times in our life that change will come about in what feels like a violent,
Intrusive,
Sudden,
Shocking way.
However you are experiencing change in your life right now,
It is okay and normal.
And just allow it to be what it is.
Now return your awareness to your breath.
Your breath can help you navigate the current of your neurobiology.
The current of your brain.
The current of this river.
With each breath,
Try to slowly lengthen your inhale and slow down and lengthen your exhale.
Slowing the breath,
Extending the inhale and extending the exhale is one way for you to be a captain on the tides and rivers of change.
Imagine with each breath that current starts to slow.
Imagine with each breath the waters dissipate.
With each breath the sound of the rush of the rapids begins to quiet.
And as it does so,
Now picture yourself standing beside this river of change taking in the beauty around you.
Notice the sun.
If there's a breeze,
Picture the smell and allow the sound of the water to slow to a point that it sounds gentle and peaceful.
Picture the waters of this river starting to clear up from their prior murkiness that was kicked up from all that change happening in your life.
Now you're standing by a peaceful river that feels calming.
That feels safe.
A river with clear waters that you can see down all the way to the bottom of the riverbed.
Perhaps you see fish,
Rocks,
Other forms of life as you can see through what was once murky waters.
As you breathe in and breathe out allow every fiber of your being to soak up the peace and safety that change can bring.
Allow yourself to be open to the transformative power of change and the opportunities that come.
Before you leave this riverbed I invite you to pick out one thing,
One insight,
One truth about change about how you will and are navigating change to carry with you and help ground you and return you to this peaceful river when the waters get busy again.
Take that one gift with you and keep it close for the rest of the day.
I hope that this guided meditation around change offers an opening in your heart and some peace along the transformative journey that lies ahead.
You got this.
