Hi,
My name is Priscilla,
And today I want to guide you through Brahmari Pranayama,
Also known as bumblebee breath.
This breathing technique,
We're going to invite in a little bit of sound to really create a vibration within our being.
And this sound may sound very similar to a bumblebee.
And if you do this with one or more people,
You start to create your hive.
And it's a really,
Really fun practice to do with a group of people.
So if you have family members that might want to join you,
Feel free to invite them to watch along.
And it's a very simple practice with many profound benefits that are really,
Really helpful psychologically,
Mentally,
Emotionally,
Physically,
And spiritually.
So if you are dealing with any major nasal issues or severe ear infection,
Be very gentle with yourself with this breath.
It is available to anyone.
There really are no contraindications.
However,
We are going to be clearing any throat ailments.
We might be clearing any issues with the nasal passages.
So if you need to take little breaks in between,
Give yourself some breaks.
There are different ways that you can do this breath.
So I will guide you through three different ways.
And just know that if you're dealing with a lot of stress or anxiety,
A lot of fatigue,
You can always come to this breath as a great tool in your back pocket to help calm any tension.
Because when we hum and we're activating this throat chakra area,
We're also activating our third eye and we're getting up into the head.
The sound will be like a reverberation in your skull,
Which helps improve cognition,
Focus,
Memory,
And also helps to give us a little more clarity.
And if you feel like you need to stop and cough,
Because we're going to be clearing out some throat stuff.
So if you need to pause and cough,
Let yourself cough.
Whatever needs to be,
We're cleaning out the pipes essentially.
So whatever needs to be cleared out,
Let yourself move through the process in your own way.
Know that there's nothing wrong with you.
There's no right or wrong way of doing this.
Just do your best.
No better,
No less.
And as far as benefits,
Just a few other ones that I really,
Really want to know is that we are calming again the basic vagus nerve,
Which drops us into our parasympathetic nervous system,
Which is our rest and digest way of being.
So really great tool to try even before bed.
This could be a really nice one to help you drop into either a meditative state or to drop into a nice deep rest.
So I hope you love it.
Let's give it a go.
We're going to start with just sitting nice and tall,
Finding a comfortable seat,
Sits bones rooting down into the earth,
Head reaching up to the heavens,
Shoulders coming up towards the ears and dropping them down your back.
Finding your hands either on your lap or palms facing up or down your choice.
If you need to adjust your seat,
Do whatever you need to make yourself more comfortable.
If you're sitting,
You can also put some blocks or books or pillows underneath your thighs and knees to give a little extra support.
Or give yourself the opportunity to sit in a chair.
Is good for you,
Honor your body.
And as we come to a nice tall seat,
I invite you to close your eyes,
Close the lips,
And we're going to breathe in through the nose,
Nice deep breath.
And on the exhale,
Exhaling with a hum.
Go as long and sustained as you can.
And when you're completing that hum,
Start again,
Breathing in through the nose,
Exhaling with a hum.
Keep it going and if you notice,
Maybe you want to move that hum around like a high to a low or just finding your own home note.
Again,
This isn't about what you sound like.
There's no good or bad,
Right or wrong.
We're just exploring and witnessing.
Beautiful.
Let's take a pause here and take a moment to notice what you notice.
We're going to move into our second way of doing this breath,
Which is the more traditional way.
And we're going to actually create what we call Spock hands.
So ring finger and pinky are going to come together and then your middle finger and index finger are going to come together and then thumb is going to be on its own and all the fingers are going to just be spread nice and wide.
We're going to bring our,
Middle finger towards the bridge of the nose and the inner eye and the index finger is going to rest over the eye.
We're not pressing into the eyes,
We're just gently resting.
And then your ring and pinky finger can come to the top upper lip or rest on your lips.
And then our thumbs are going to close the tragus.
The ear flap is going to close and you're going to go into your own internal world here.
We're going to do three breaths in this hold.
So here we go.
Closing off the ears,
Resting the fingers.
Deep breath in through the nose.
So for our third way of doing this breath,
I love this hold.
And this is a really sweet one right before bed or even in the morning,
Such a great way to wake up and start your day.
But I like to bring in a little bit of a cradle to my face.
So bringing my hands just to cup the jaw,
The thumbs can kind of rest on the side of the neck.
And then your fingers,
Whether it's your index finger,
Your middle finger,
Whatever feels most comfortable for you.
Finger to press into the tragus,
Close the ears,
And we'll do three hums here.
Breathing in through the nose,
Close off the ears,
And hum.
And just let your hands soften,
Resting them down.
Taking a moment to just notice.
Again,
What you notice.
The vibrations flowing within your body.
Noticing which hold or which hum felt the best for you today.
And when you're ready,
You can gently open your eyes coming back into this space.
I'd like to thank you for trying on this practice with me today.
I hope you enjoyed it.
If you did,
Please feel free to leave a review or some comments to let me know how you liked it and maybe even which one you felt resonated with you more.
And one thing I want to leave you with is try this on each day if you can,
You know,
Really give yourself permission to perhaps try it on in the morning,
Try it on in the evening,
Try it on perhaps throughout a busy day.
Maybe if you've been at the computer for a really long time,
Maybe take a moment to just a few moments to just sit tall,
Close your eyes and hum,
Even if it's an internal hum and see how it shifts your day and shifts your energy.
May this breath be a beautiful,
Healing,
Soothing balm for you throughout your days and I hope to breathe with you again.
Namaste.
