This is a meditation for coming home from work after a stressful day.
Find yourself a comfortable position.
You don't have to be anywhere else right now.
You don't have to do anything else right now.
Just let yourself arrive here.
If your mind is still somewhere else,
Still at your desk,
At your office or workplace,
Still running through the list,
Still holding whatever today asked of you,
That's okay.
That's more than okay.
That's just what minds do.
We're not here to fight that.
We're here to be gentle with it.
Take a slow breath in through your nose and a long,
Soft breath out.
Good.
Just like that.
Notice your shoulders for a moment.
Where are they sitting?
Perhaps roll them back.
No judgment.
Just notice.
And with your next breath out,
See if they can soften.
Just a little,
Even five or ten percent.
That's enough.
Notice your jaw,
Your hands,
Your chest,
Anywhere that you might be holding onto tension without realising it.
You've been carrying a lot lately.
Your body knows that.
It's been carrying it with you.
I'd like to invite you to picture something.
And if visualisation isn't your thing,
Just let the words wash over you.
There's no right way to do this.
Imagine yourself standing at the start of a bridge.
It's quiet here.
The kind of quiet that feels like a permission slip.
Behind you,
The day.
Everything it asked of you.
The conversations,
The decisions,
The things left undone.
The version of you that had to show up and perform and manage and hold it all together.
She's there behind you,
He's there,
They're there.
And you can honour all of that.
It was real.
It mattered.
But right now,
In this moment,
You're standing at this bridge.
And on the other side,
There's just you.
Not the worker.
Not the colleague.
Not the one who's responsible for everything.
Just you.
And when you're ready,
Whenever you're ready,
Begin to walk across the bridge.
With every step,
Feel the weight of the day becoming a little lighter.
Not gone,
You're not pretending it wasn't real.
Just not yours to carry anymore today.
Keep walking.
Slowly.
There's no rush here.
And as you reach the other side,
Just pause.
Just stand here for a moment.
On this side of the bridge.
I want to say something to you.
And I mean it from the heart.
The fact that you find it hard to switch off,
That's not a flaw.
That's not you failing at something.
It means you care.
It means you've been present and engaged and giving of yourself.
And that takes something from you.
Of course it does.
You're allowed to put it down.
Not permanently,
Not forever.
Just for now.
Just for tonight.
The work will still be there tomorrow.
But right now,
This moment belongs to you.
Place a hand on your heart if that feels okay.
And just feel it.
Beating,
Steady,
Still here.
You did enough today.
You are enough and you're allowed to rest.
Begin to bring your awareness back to the room around you.
The sounds.
The light.
The feeling of where you're sitting or lying.
Take one more deep breath in.
And breathe it all the way out.
And whenever you feel ready,
Gently open your eyes.
Welcome home.
