
Meditation For Setting Healthy Boundaries
Why should we set healthy boundaries? If we feel like someone has over-stepped a boundary, it is important to communicate when it feels safe to express this. If we are clear about our own boundaries, it can help us to explain to others what our boundary is. It may feel vulnerable or uncomfortable to have this kind of conversation and it is important to remember that we do not have control over how the other person responds. It is natural to be met with defence mechanisms, however it is essential that we stick with the boundary we are trying to set. Be clear and specific about why you are setting a boundary. It takes time and practice to set healthier boundaries. If we feel overwhelmed during a discussion/argument, it is okay to walk away. (This is a clear boundary). When we set a boundary, we must focus on our thoughts, emotions and behaviour aligning with this boundary. It is natural to feel guilt, shame and overwhelm when setting new boundaries.
