I thought I smelled the ocean today,
But it was only my tears taking me home.
It's a way the salty breeze meets my hair,
And the lingering of jasmine was nearly there.
Home is where I go for a sweet embrace,
A honey on the cheek,
To slow the days down,
And keep it simple,
Letting the island speak for herself.
Home is where I return to see all my favorite faces,
Laughing through the heat,
And talking story to beat all of the changes we'd rather not meet.
Home is where I've grown to know the workings of the world,
And prepare this little girl for her greatest adventure yet.
I dry my eyes and remind myself it is home that remains within,
No matter how far I roam.
It is home with her arms wide open,
Standing ashore and ready to greet me.
A sweet,
Sweet aloha.
