This guided visualization helps you manage activation during the workday by creating a mental “container” to temporarily hold triggering thoughts, emotions, or images. Rather than suppressing your experience, you intentionally set it aside with the commitment to return and process it later. This structured containment supports nervous system regulation and emotional pacing in real time. The goal is to help you return to your day feeling steadier, clearer, and less activated.

Hey,

It's Krista and this exercise is to support something you just went through at work.

Something that maybe felt particularly activating,

Emotionally charged,

A surprising event.

So this workday containment practice does not mean we're pushing this experience away.

We'll take time to acknowledge it,

Place it in a safe mental container and you get to choose when to return to it.

The intention is that you will revisit this later and so give yourself a moment to name a specific time anchor that you might return to this.

After work,

You can journal,

Process,

But just know we're going to acknowledge this activation and choose to set it aside temporarily so that you can function with the rest of your workday.

And again,

Knowing you will return to it later.

So let's begin.

Take a moment to notice anything that still feels activated from what just happened.

Something feels unfinished or too intense to carry with you right now.

This could be body sensations,

Emotions,

Images,

Or thoughts connected to this experience.

So let's create the container for what you're feeling right now.

And in your mind,

Allow an image of a container to form,

Take shape,

Choose something that feels strong,

Reliable,

And secure enough to hold what you place inside it.

It could be made of any material,

Any shape,

Any size.

For example,

A large wooden chest or a square metal cube.

Take a moment to notice its details and trust that it can safely hold what you give it.

One by one,

Start to place this mental material inside.

Again,

It could be images,

Emotions,

Physical sensations,

But do place any remaining distressing thoughts into the container.

You do not need to analyze them,

Just notice them and allow them to be placed inside.

Were you able to place everything inside?

Good.

So when everything that needs to be set aside is inside,

Imagine closing the container.

Visualize the container closing.

And securing it in a way that feels safe for you,

Using materials that allow it to stay locked until you can return to it.

Take a moment to visualize the materials you will use so that it feels completely safe and closed.

And this tells your mind and your body that you're pausing on noticing this event for now,

Knowing nothing will spill out or intrude into the rest of your workday.

Now let's find a place to store it.

Begin to visualize your container being placed in a safe location,

Somewhere nobody knows and it can remain undisturbed until you choose to return to it.

You can let me know when your container is safely stored.

Good.

Now,

Bring your attention back to your body.

Start by noticing your breath.

And then feel for your posture.

Notice your posture and the supporting surface below you.

Observe any shifts in your body.

Perhaps these shifts are toward calm,

Steadiness,

Presence,

Or grounding.

And then take a moment to notice where you are right now.

Scan your environment,

Moving your eyes,

And taking in the items around you.

And remind yourself that this moment is ending.

This event is put in a container and you are safe in the present moment.

It is contained.

So make a promise to yourself that knowing this is contained,

It's always available.

And you can return to it when you feel ready and supported,

When you feel ready to process and reflect.

But for now,

You can leave this material here and go on with the rest of your workday.

Thank you for creating this workday containment for yourself.
