We all have an inner voice.

Sometimes it's kind,

Other times it's not.

That voice that says you should have done better,

Why can't you get it right,

You're not enough.

If you've heard that voice,

I want you to know it isn't the truth.

It's just a habit,

One your mind learned a long time ago to try to keep you in line,

To keep you safe.

But habits can be rewritten.

Here's the shift.

When that harsh voice appears,

Instead of asking why am I like this,

Ask what do I need right now.

Do I need a breath?

Do I need to step back?

Do I just need someone,

Even if it's me,

To be kind for a moment.

When you do this something changes.

Your nervous system recognizes the signal of safety.

That inner voice starts to soften and over time it becomes less of a critic and more of a quiet coach.

So start small,

One moment,

One sentence.

Because every gentle word you offer yourself is one step closer to believing it.

And one day soon you will.
