Hello and welcome.

My name is John Steen,

And I'm an energy healing practitioner here on Insight Timer.

Have you ever felt scattered,

Overwhelmed,

Anxious,

Or like your mind is racing ahead of you?

Maybe you've been carrying a lot emotionally.

Maybe life has felt uncertain.

Or maybe you've simply been moving so quickly that you've lost touch with the present moment.

If so,

Grounding may be exactly what your system is asking for.

Today,

I want to spend a few minutes talking about what grounding is.

Why it matters,

And a simple way you can begin practicing it right now.

At its simplest,

Grounding is the practice of reconnecting with the present moment through the body.

It's a way of coming home to yourself.

In my work as an energy healing practitioner,

Grounding is the one of the most important practices I teach.

Is people often think healing is about reaching higher states of consciousness,

Becoming more spiritual,

Or accessing deep energetic experiences.

But what I've learned is that healing often begins much closer to the ground.

It begins with feeling safe enough to be here.

Safe enough to be in the body.

Safe enough to feel what we're feeling.

And safe enough to be present with our lives.

And grounding helps create that foundation.

And many traditions associate grounding with the root chakra,

Which is located at the base of your spine,

At your perineum.

And the root chakra is often connected with safety,

Stability,

Belonging,

And our connection to the physical world.

When we feel grounded,

We often feel more settled.

More present,

More connected to ourselves,

And more capable of responding to life instead of simply reacting to it.

And when we feel disconnected from the body,

Overwhelmed,

Or fearful,

Or pulled into too many directions,

We may begin to feel ungrounded.

And not because anything is wrong with us,

But because life has a way of pulling our attention away from the present moment.

Stress can do it.

Grief can do it.

Big life changes can do it.

Technology can do it.

Even exciting opportunities can do it.

Sometimes our minds are living in yesterday.

Sometimes they're trying to solve tomorrow.

Meanwhile,

Our bodies are still waiting for us to arrive.

And grounding helps bridge that gap.

It helps us return.

So let's try something together.

Nothing complicated,

No special experience required.

Just bring attention to your feet.

And notice where they make contact with the floor.

Notice the support beneath you.

And take a slow,

Deep breath in.

And a slow breath out.

And now simply notice the weight of your body.

Notice the chair supporting you.

Or the ground beneath you.

Or the sensation of your clothing against your skin.

And take another slow breath.

Look around your space.

Name three things that you can see.

Then notice two things you can hear.

And finally,

Notice one thing you can feel within your body right now.

Perhaps warmth.

Pressure.

Stillness.

Movement.

There is no right answer.

Just simply notice.

And in that noticing,

You've already begun to ground.

Grounding isn't about becoming perfectly calm.

It's not about eliminating stress or making difficult emotions disappear.

Grounding is simply the practice of returning to yourself.

Again and again.

One breath.

One moment and one step at a time.

Thank you for spending these few moments with me.

I hope this simple practice supports you wherever you are on your journey.

Take good care of yourself,

And I'll see you again soon.
