Welcome to Somatic Signal.
I'm Jeremy,
A neurophysiologist.
If you're just putting your phone down after scrolling,
Your brain is currently overstimulated by the bright photons of the phone.
And the rapid dopamine loops your brain's going through.
No need to judge yourself for it.
Or simply noticing and changing the input.
In this under 5 minute reset.
.
.
It helps your visual cortex and clears screen agitation so you can transition easy into sleep.
Let's calibrate.
If it's not already,
Set your phone face down and out of reach.
And you might turn off or block out any room lights.
Just notice the light amount in the room.
And take your palms.
And rub them together slightly.
Generating a little physical warmth.
And when you're ready,
Cup your warm palms slightly over your closed eyes.
Making an even darker space.
And there's no need to press into your eyelids.
We're simply giving the eyes a little less input.
Maybe feeling that soothing warmth on your ocular nerves.
Maybe feeling that tactile feedback just around your eyes and your fingers.
This absence of light,
It's a direct signal.
Signal to the brain.
The day is over.
And it can allow the natural melatonin release to resume.
When you're ready,
You can lower your hands slowly.
Maybe one landing on your chest and the other on your belly.
You start to notice here your breath underneath your hands.
The rise and the fall.
Just sensing in those connections between the breath and the hands.
Now moving to your jaw.
Sensing if there's any more ease there.
Maybe slightly separating the teeth.
Letting the tongue fall.
Checking into your shoulders.
Bringing a little more ease.
Just letting your attention.
Maybe rest in the physical rise and fall happening under your hands.
And when thoughts come,
Images,
Something from your phone pops into your mind.
You might treat it as empty noise.
You might bring your awareness back to the warm,
Heavy pressure of your hands on your chest.
Maybe your jaw.
Maybe your breath.
And you're sensing in.
The digital noise is clearing.
Your system is grounding.
And the only thing left is rest.
