Welcome,
And thank you for joining me.
This meditation is titled,
Deep Sleep Meditation,
Calm the Nervous System for Sleep.
As night approaches,
The body naturally begins preparing for rest.
But sometimes,
The nervous system is still carrying the rhythms of the day,
Keeping the body slightly more alert than it needs to be.
Tonight,
We're simply going to give the nervous system a few signals that it's safe to slow down.
Nothing complicated.
Nothing that requires any effort.
Just a few gentle cues to move our bodies out of daytime mode and into a slower rhythm that supports deep,
Restful sleep.
Let's begin.
Find a position that allows you to feel comfortable and supported.
This could be lying down or sitting upright.
Either is perfectly fine.
Once you're there,
Take a slow,
Easy breath in,
And then let it out.
As you settle in,
Start to notice the gentle pull of gravity throughout your body.
The weight of your head,
Your shoulders,
Your arms,
Your legs.
There's nothing you need to adjust.
Just notice how your body has begun to settle,
All on its own.
When it feels right,
Gently close your eyes.
Bring your attention now to your breath.
Air moving in.
Air moving out.
Don't try to direct it.
Just notice it's happening all by itself.
Inhale.
Exhale.
Let's take a few easy breaths together.
Take a gentle breath in,
And now exhale as if you're setting something down.
Another breath in,
And a slow,
Relaxing breath out.
One more breath in,
And now a long,
Slow,
Easy breath out.
Go ahead and let your breath now return to its own natural rhythm.
As your breath settles,
Start to gently follow the movement of each breath.
Breathing in,
And breathing out.
Let's begin quietly counting our breaths.
On the next breath in,
Count one,
And on the breath out,
Count two.
The next breath in,
Three,
And the breath after that,
Four.
Continue slowly counting all the way to ten.
When you reach ten,
Simply begin again at one.
If the mind wanders,
Or you lose count,
Just return to the next breath and begin again at one.
Thoughts appearing and then fading,
Like distant sounds,
Drifting further away.
Just continue resting here,
Following the quiet rhythm of the breath.
There's nothing more you need to do.
From here,
I'll step back and let the music carry you the rest of the way.
Rest well.
