I remember when I was a kid,

Every night I would have to go to sleep with my night light on.

I needed a night light.

I'm not afraid to admit that.

For adults,

Our night light is guided meditations before sleep for some of us.

So here we are.

Welcome back to the Grounded Sleep Podcast.

I'm David and I'll be your guide.

And I'm here to help you have a really deep,

Relaxed night of sleep.

So get into bed if you aren't already there.

And hopefully you're already done with your evening rituals.

You've brushed your teeth and the lights are off and you're ready to sleep.

Get under your blanket.

Get into a comfortable position.

Find just the right spot on your pillow.

Maybe you draw your shoulders away from your ears a little bit.

And gently begin to close your eyes.

It's a beautiful thing when we close our eyes.

Our attention immediately goes from the outer world to the inner world.

And you can be grateful.

And you can be grateful that you have access to both of these worlds.

When we go to sleep,

We let go of the outer world.

We unplug from the outer world and we go into our inner world so we can recharge.

And tonight's meditation is about having gratitude as we go to sleep.

What a beautiful energy to fall asleep to.

To be in our hearts.

To be grateful for the day we've had.

For the life we've had.

For the people we love.

Even in the midst of turmoil,

Conflict,

Resistance.

We can still find that deep inner peace as we fall asleep.

So what I'd like you to do is to just place one or both of your hands right on the center of your chest.

Right on your heart center.

This is the place,

The space you feel gratitude from.

They say the heart beats a hundred thousand times a day.

How beautiful is that?

And so we have our physical heart and then we have our energetic heart.

And the energetic heart is that place in the center of your chest where if I was to ask you to point to yourself,

You would most likely point.

This is where you can feel gratitude for yourself and for everything else that exists.

Go ahead and take a nice big deep breath into the center of your chest.

Let it expand out.

And then take a nice easy soft sigh out.

What I'd like you to do is to find one moment from today that you're grateful for.

It can be something small like having a cup of coffee or tea,

Taking a walk or talking to someone you care about.

Or it could be big like some kind of life event or shift.

Take a moment and just bring up that memory.

And from the center of your chest,

Just add that feeling of gratitude to that moment.

As you feel gratitude for the moment,

All of the sudden it's like this moment turns into a butterfly that's just sitting on your hand.

You see it for its beauty,

For its ephemeral nature.

And then it just flies away.

You have gratitude for it and then you let it go.

And then I'd like you to find a second moment from today that you're grateful for.

Feel that gratitude again in your heart.

And this time I'd like you to notice what the quality of energy is in this moment that you're remembering,

That you're grateful for.

Is it someone's kindness?

Is it some form of simplicity or beauty of life?

Is it something that made you laugh or opened your mind?

Have gratitude for the moment and for the quality of energy in the moment.

You can even have gratitude for yourself for being able to appreciate this moment.

You have this amazing ability to appreciate and they say what we appreciate appreciates.

It gains value as we have gratitude for it.

And then when you're ready,

You notice this moment turns into a butterfly just sitting on the palm of your hand.

And then you just let it go.

And since we're on a roll,

Let's do one more moment.

In this one,

I'd like you to have gratitude for waking up this morning.

As simple as that sounds.

Gratitude for life allowing you to wake up one more morning.

This morning your eyes opened,

Maybe the sun came through the window.

You woke up to another day on planet Earth.

See if you can remember waking up this morning and what it felt like.

And as you notice the beauty of this morning,

Of being able to wake up on this planet one more time,

You really feel the gratitude.

And then again,

This moment turns into a butterfly.

And then you just let it go.

You say thank you and you let it go.

As your body starts to relax deeper and deeper.

Your body feels good when it feels gratitude.

And we're going to do one final moment.

And that's this moment.

Can you have gratitude for being in bed?

For falling asleep so gently?

You've had the opportunity to experience falling asleep thousands of times.

And you've done it every time.

You're better at falling asleep than you think you are.

Can you have gratitude for sleep and what it brings you?

The rest that it brings you?

The recharging of energy?

The dreams?

And with gratitude,

Begin to invite sleep into your night.

Notice all the muscle in your body start to relax deeper and deeper.

And as you go to sleep,

You realize how much gratitude you have for yourself.

You have this beautiful body that life has given you.

It has the ability to be awake and to be asleep.

It has the ability to balance its temperature and digest food.

To breathe oxygen and to think.

To love and have gratitude.

As you fall asleep,

You gently remind your unconscious mind that you're going to sleep with gratitude.

And you're going to wake up with gratitude.

And the more you're grateful for,

The more life will give you things to be grateful for.

Have a beautiful,

Deep sleep.
