Hi,
I'm here to share with you what I know about internal family systems.
This is a therapeutic model that provides a full framework.
And conceptualization about.
Who we are,
How we are in the world.
And what to do about healing and transformation.
What I love about this model is that it really allows us to see people from a place of multiplicity number one,
Which means we all have different parts or aspects of ourselves.
And all of those parts are to be embraced and accepted.
And number two,
This model helps us see ourselves and each other.
Through the lens of what happened to us,
Not what's wrong with us.
This is a very trauma-informed perspective and a highly inclusive perspective.
And it helps us bring more self-compassion.
And curiosity to ourselves and each other in the world.
When I say multiplicity,
The way we see that is that we are made up of many parts.
And they consist of our exiles,
Who are often our young experiences that were overwhelming,
That were kind of tucked away or hidden.
Because they produce uncomfortable feelings like shame,
Loneliness,
And depression.
Not being good enough.
And we're lovable.
And then we have.
Protectors that show up when we have those experiences as young kids.
And they either manage us to prevent those feelings and experiences from happening again,
Or they manage us by helping us deal with those overwhelming feelings and sensations when they happen again.
We call those managers and firefighters.
The firefighters come in to douse the nervous system and disconnect us from our experience of the parts that bring a lot of intense or overwhelming feelings.
And our managers are really working hard to prevent us.
From feeling that.
So they really are helping us.
Get approval.
Get connection with other people,
Feel lovable and feel worthy.
What I love about this model is it also introduces us to the self in the system,
Which is a self with a capital S,
Which I really believe makes this a psycho-spiritual model.
Because the self is very similar to,
Or you might experience the energy of it inside as our soul or spirit.
It's that.
That space inside of us that feels warm.
Open and spacious.
That allows us to feel fully present.
In our experiences and in our lives.
This is a model that has completely changed my life and how I live my life,
Relate to myself,
Relate to other people,
And how I do healing work with others.
This is the one that really brought together two and a half decades of experience as a therapist and blends all that I've learned into one whole thing.
Conceptualization of healing transformation.
End my life and others' lives.
If this feels intriguing for you and you want to learn more,
Stay with me on this journey.
Bye for now.
