Allow the eyes to gently close or the gaze to soften,
Whichever feels more natural in this moment.
Notice you have already arrived.
You are already here.
There's nowhere to go.
There's nothing to do.
Any tension in the face,
Let that go.
There is no right way to be here.
There's no wrong way to be.
Your being here is perfect.
Begin to notice sounds,
Sound of my voice,
Sounds in the environment,
Cars passing,
Planes flying overhead,
A dog barking.
Notice the pattern that the sensation of sound follows.
Awareness is aware.
A sound arises.
Awareness is aware.
The sound exists.
Awareness is aware.
The sound falls away.
Awareness is aware.
Rest is the open,
Spacious awareness that allows all sounds to equally arise,
Exist,
And fall away.
Notice from the stain,
There are no good sounds.
There are no bad sounds.
There is just sound appearing.
Notice that there really is nothing required to be right here,
Right now.
Notice that all sensations follow this pattern.
They arise,
They exist,
They fall away.
Nothing required of awareness.
Awareness simply is aware of the arising,
The existing,
And the falling away.
Sight,
All sensations arise as they arise,
They exist as they exist,
They fall away as they fall away.
Rest here,
In this open state of awareness.
All sensations are allowed.
If discomfort arises,
Notice that awareness is aware before any action appears.
If discomfort arises,
Notice the noticing.
Either sit,
Stay,
Be with the discomfort,
Or move.
Alleviate the discomfort,
Both perfectly allowed.
Notice that this open state of awareness never leaves.
Notice that everything that appears within awareness follows a familiar pattern,
Arising,
Existing,
And falling away.
Watch these next thoughts.
Notice that awareness is simply aware.
The thought arises,
The thought exists,
The thought falls away.
Nothing required from awareness.
It's only through rethinking that the thought reappears.
Rest.
Rest as the prior condition,
That open awareness that simply is aware.
Thoughts appear,
Thoughts dissolve from this open state.
Notice there really are no good thoughts,
There really are no bad thoughts,
There are just thoughts appearing almost spontaneously,
Like a phenomenon.
Arising,
Existing,
Falling away.
Nothing required.
Allow all thoughts to appear,
To exist,
To fall away.
Rest.
Rest as the prior condition,
As the open awareness.
As we allow all sensations to appear equally,
And as we allow all thoughts to appear equally,
We're left with only one other appearance within awareness,
And that's emotion.
And notice emotion follows the same pattern,
An emotion arises and exists,
It falls away.
Which emotion appears,
How strong it seems,
How long it will last,
This all seems unknowable,
You can accept that too.
Any emotion that's being felt is perfectly valid,
It's perfectly allowed.
This open state of awareness is impartial.
Meditation really is this simple,
Awareness,
Being aware,
Of being aware,
No matter what appears,
Awareness is always aware.
You are that,
All sensations,
Equally allowed,
Right here,
Right now.
You cannot fail at this,
What you are is the prior condition,
It is the field where all appearances appear.
Really rest right here,
Right now.
There's nowhere to go,
There's nothing to do.
Just let it all be,
Let it be precisely as it is,
There's nothing to fix,
There's nothing to control.
This open state never leaves,
It only becomes obscured by mind,
Leave this meditation as if you've never left,
Awareness is always here,
May we live with ease,
May we suffer just a little bit less.
