Welcome back to With Every Breath,
I Return to Compassion.
As you settle into this space,
Allow your body to relax into stillness.
Take a slow,
Deep breath in through your nose,
And release it gently through your nose.
Let your shoulders drop,
Your hands are resting softly wherever they fall.
Feel the ground supporting you,
Steady and hurried,
Safe.
Let's breathe into compassion.
Because compassion is the tender bridge that connects the heart to the world.
It's a soft strength that allows us to care,
Without being consumed,
To love,
Without losing ourselves.
As you breathe,
You begin to awaken that quiet kindness within.
It's the compassion that asks for nothing,
But offers everything.
Let your breath become your guide home.
With each inhale,
You open your heart,
And with each exhale,
You let kindness flow.
Good.
So,
Compassion is not something we have to force.
It's our natural state,
The way the soul breathes when it's at peace.
But life can sometimes make your heart close in on itself.
From exhaustion,
Disappointment,
Or pain,
We begin to armour ourselves,
Believing that softness is weakness.
And yet,
Compassion is the greatest courage of all.
It allows us to meet pain,
Our own and others,
With tenderness rather than resistance.
It whispers,
I see you,
I understand,
You are not alone.
Take a deep,
Gentle breath in,
And as you exhale,
Visualize a soft golden light expanding in your chest.
It's warm,
Golden,
Forgiving.
This light is compassion.
It is ancient and boundless.
It does not judge,
It simply holds.
As you breathe,
Bring to mind someone or something that's been in your thoughts lately.
Perhaps it's a situation,
A person,
Or even a part of yourself.
Instead of pushing it away,
See if you can hold it in the warmth of your breath.
No fixing,
No solving,
Just being present with gentleness.
With every breath,
Whisper inwardly,
May I meet this with compassion.
And just let that phrase just echo through your being.
Now,
Bring one hand to your heart and the other over your belly.
Feel the steady rhythm beneath your palm,
Your heartbeat,
A song of life continuing moment by moment.
Begin to breathe in deeply through your nose for a count of four,
Hold gently for two,
And exhale through your nose for a count of six.
Let's do that again.
Inhale four,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Hold two,
Two,
And exhale for six,
Five,
Four,
Three,
Two,
One.
Continue,
And with every inhale,
Imagine drawing in the soft golden light,
The light of understanding and forgiveness.
And with each exhale,
Release any hardness or resistance held in your chest.
Just let your breath become a wave of compassion,
Flowing in and out,
And it's smoothing the edges of your heart.
Now,
Silently repeat these phrases with your breath.
Inhale,
May I be gentle with myself.
Exhale,
May I be kind to others.
Inhale,
May I breathe in love.
Exhale,
May I breathe out peace.
As you continue this rhythm,
Just visualize your breath creating a soft circle of golden light around you.
It's a cocoon of calm understanding.
Within this circle,
There is no judgment,
No expectation,
No right or wrong,
Only the truth of our shared humanity.
You might begin to feel warmth spreading from your heart.
It's a radiance that grows with every breath.
It reaches out effortlessly to loved ones,
To strangers,
To all beings everywhere.
And there's no need to try,
Because the love within you knows how to find its way.
Now,
You are walking along a quiet river at sunset.
The light dances across the water in shades of gold and rose.
You kneel beside the riverbank,
And as the current moves gently,
It's never hurried,
Ever still.
You reach your hand into the water.
It feels cool and alive,
Flowing effortlessly around your fingers.
This river is compassion,
Ever moving,
Ever renewing.
When sorrow or fear enters its waters,
The river doesn't resist.
It carries everything onward,
Softly,
Steadily,
Back toward wholeness.
As you breathe,
Just visualize your heart merging with this river,
Open,
Fluid,
Fast,
And you feel its current moving through you.
It's washing away tension,
Washing away stress,
Softening judgment,
And it is nourishing every cell with gentle awareness.
So,
Each inhale draws the river in,
Each exhale lets compassion flow out into the world.
Now,
Visualize faces,
People you love,
People who you might find challenging,
Even people you may have never met yet.
Send them this simple wish.
May you be free from suffering.
May you find peace.
May you be held in compassion.
Feel these words as ripples of love moving outward until the whole river is shimmering with light and you are part of that light.
You are both the giver and the receiver of compassion.
So,
Slowly and gently,
Just begin to bring your awareness back to your body.
Feel your breath returning to its natural rhythm.
Your heart feels open now,
Yet peaceful,
Strong,
Yet tender.
You have remembered that compassion is not something outside you.
It is your true nature,
Flowing with every breath,
Quietly healing the world,
One heartbeat at a time.
So,
Take a deep breath in,
And as you exhale,
Whisper softly,
With every breath,
I return to compassion.
With every breath,
I return to love.
Just let those words linger in the air and let them rest in your heart.
And when you're ready,
Begin to move gently,
Rolling your shoulders if that feels good.
And stretching gently,
Carrying this softness with you.
So that every breath,
Every interaction,
Becomes a beautiful offering of kindness.
You have come home to compassion.
Namaste,
My friend.
