This short meditation is for times when you have a cold or flu and need to rest. You’re invited to make yourself as comfortable as possible and gently notice how your body feels, without trying to change or fix anything. With soft body awareness and simple self-kindness phrases, this practice offers a calm, supportive space while you rest and allow your body to heal in its own time.

Hello and welcome.

If you're here I imagine it's because you are feeling a little bit under the weather.

So I want to acknowledge that and I invite you to settle yourself into the most comfortable position possible for you.

That could be lying in your bed snuggling under the blankets or maybe leaning back in a comfortable chair with a rug over you.

Settle yourself into whatever position you need to feel the most comfortable.

So let your body rest in whatever position feels easiest for you.

There's nothing you need to achieve.

There's nothing to get right.

Simply allow yourself to relax into this moment.

Being here is enough.

If it's helpful I invite you to gently close your eyes.

Now bring a gentle awareness to how your body is feeling.

You might notice aches and pains.

Maybe you have a headache.

Your nose is blocked.

Maybe you feel hot or cold.

Maybe you just feel generally under the weather.

Just acknowledge what is here without trying to change anything.

Just observe how you feel without judging yourself for being ill.

All beings are prone to falling ill.

It happens to everybody and around the world at this moment there are many people also suffering from flus,

Colds and other bugs.

Some of your symptoms may feel unpleasant.

You may feel tired.

See if you can meet these bodily sensations with a little spaciousness.

A sense that this too is part of being human and that every sensation,

However unpleasant,

Is a temporary.

All sensations are changing all the time.

Nothing is fixed.

Nothing is static.

Now imagine these areas of discomfort being held and cradled with gentle kindness.

If your throat is sore,

Your nose blocked up,

Your head aching,

Offer those places some loving kindness,

Some warmth and understanding.

Let your body do what it needs to heal itself.

You just need to rest and let nature take its course.

Your body knows what it needs.

Now gently offer yourself a few phrases of loving kindness.

May I feel well soon.

May my body heal itself.

May I find comfort and ease.

Choose one of these phrases or create one of your own and repeat it softly to yourself.

May I feel well soon.

May I find comfort and ease.

May my body heal itself.

Let your body rest now in whatever sense of comfort is available to you.

Appreciate yourself for taking this time to relax,

To find comfort,

To care for yourself.

There is nothing you need to do right now.

Just rest and allow your body to breathe and mend itself.

As we come towards the end of this meditation,

Know that you can return to this place of healing and quiet rest whenever you need to.

May you feel supported and cared for.

May you heal quickly and feel well soon.

May all beings that feel ill soon feel healthy and well.

I invite you when you're ready to begin to move your body,

Your fingers,

Your toes,

Bring your attention back to your breath.

If you're lying down,

You don't need to get up.

Take your time.

If you want to stay in bed longer,

Then do so.

May you heal quickly and feel well soon.
