Welcome.
I'm really glad you're here with me today.
This practice is an invitation to arrive gently in this moment,
Already just as you are,
Without effort,
Without needing to do anything right.
You might choose to be seated,
Lying down,
Or in any position that feels supportive for you in this moment.
And at any point,
You can shift,
Move,
Or adjust in whatever way feels supportive.
You might listen for what the body needs,
No need to rush,
Perhaps taking a moment to settle in here.
Taking a moment to simply notice that you're here,
Beginning to sense how the body is resting here,
The way gravity quietly holds you,
As if the earth were rising up to meet you.
It's already holding you.
Perhaps noticing the places where your body makes contact with what is supporting you.
The chair,
The floor,
The surface beneath you.
Seeing if you can feel yourself resting here in this moment,
Not as a burden,
But as a quiet sense of belonging.
Your body sinking just a little,
Softening just a little to the pull of the earth beneath you,
The steady earth beneath you.
Perhaps there is a quality of pressure where you rest,
Warmth or coolness,
The subtle texture of contact.
You might sense it not only with the skin,
But as a felt sense,
A quiet knowing in the body beneath the words,
Where the body knows.
If sensation feels intense at any point,
You might let your attention widen,
Like opening a window in a warm room,
Letting fresh air move through,
Letting attention move in whatever way feels supportive.
You might let awareness drift to the sounds in the space around you,
Or the quality of light against your eyelids,
Or simply the air moving softly at the edges of your skin.
You get to decide what feels okay today.
If the breath feels accessible today,
You might notice it just as it is,
Not shaping it,
Not holding it,
Just observing the breath rising like a slow tide,
Moving through the body,
And releasing like the tide drawing back,
Breath arriving,
Breath releasing.
And if the breath doesn't feel comfortable today,
That's okay.
You might rest your attention instead on a sound in the room,
The hum of stillness,
Or the felt sense of time quietly passing.
As you stay here,
Gravity continues its gentle work,
Not pulling you down,
Receiving you,
The body settling here,
Being held,
And from this place of being held,
Seeing if there may be a softness,
However small,
That is already arriving,
Perhaps the shoulders release,
Falling ever so slightly towards the earth,
Or the jaw unclenches,
Letting a little space return,
Or there is a subtle widening behind the eyes,
As if the inside of the skull has a little more room,
Or perhaps nothing shifts at all,
That's okay too.
You might imagine,
Very lightly,
The body,
Like water,
Poured into a bowl,
It can simply rest as it is,
Finding its own level,
Its own quiet surface,
In its own time.
If it feels okay,
You might quietly offer yourself a few kind words,
The way you might speak to a dear friend,
I'm here,
This is enough for this moment,
I don't have to do this perfectly.
You might simply notice how these words meet you,
Like a leaf coming to rest on still water.
If they feel true for you,
If they feel kind,
And if they don't,
There is nothing you need to do with them.
If the mind wanders,
And it will,
That's just what minds do,
That's not a problem.
Just noticing that too,
Again and again,
Attention gently finding its way back to this breath,
Whatever sense of the body is here,
This quiet moment,
Gently held by gravity,
The quiet support of the earth beneath you,
And the body breathing,
Just as it is.
As we begin to close,
You might notice awareness widening gently,
Like light filling a room.
The sounds near and far,
The quality of light,
The sense of the room around you,
And the earth beneath you.
Still quietly holding you,
Just as it has all along,
Taking a moment to appreciate that you showed up today,
However that looked.
Nothing you need to carry forward from here,
Except perhaps a little kindness towards yourself,
And a gentle reminder that you can return to this moment whenever you need,
Letting the eyes open gently,
Or beginning to reorient to the rest of your day.
Nothing to hold,
Nothing to rush.
Thank you for practicing.
May a little kindness stay with you as you move through your day.
Be gentle with yourself today.
