Have you ever wondered who you are?
Not your name?
Your age,
Your role in life.
Or the person you have learnt to become.
But who you are behind all of that by which others have come to know you.
Most of us have spent our lives learning who we are supposed to be.
We've gathered experiences,
Memories,
Beliefs,
Relationships,
And ideas about ourselves.
We have learned how others see us,
What they expect from us.
And what we have come to expect from ourselves.
And gradually,
We begin to call all of this,
I.
But what if there is more to who you are than everything you have learnt about yourself?
For a moment,
Rather than trying to answer the question,
Who am I?
Have you ever wondered if there may be something that is aware of all that you are.
Something that is quietly aware of your thoughts,
Your feelings,
Your experiences.
And everything you have come to believe about yourself.
What could it be that is aware of it all?
Not something at a distance,
But something much more intimate.
Could this also be what you are?
Something beyond the sense of a finite personal self.
Something aware All inclusive.
All saying,
All-knowing.
Present in all that is.
At the very heart of all that is.
Simply notice.
What is it that is aware of these words?
What is it that is aware of your thoughts,
Of your feelings,
Your dreams,
Your hopes,
Your body,
Your experiences,
Right now?
There is a thought and there is something aware of that thought.
There is a feeling and something aware of the feeling.
There is the body and something aware of the body.
And yet.
.
.
We rarely stop to wonder what this awareness is.
It is simply here.
Quietly present.
As life unfolds around us.
Thoughts come and pass,
Feelings come and they pass.
The body changes,
Our circumstances change,
And our understandings of life changes.
There is this timeless awareness that is present.
Within it all.
So perhaps the question is not simply who am I?
Perhaps the deeper question is,
What is my true nature?
There is no need to find an answer.
No need to create another idea about who you are.
Quietly remain with the question and notice what is here.
What is inseparably present,
Before,
During and after,
The mind gives it a name.
What is your true nature?
You don't need to become anything new.
There is something already here,
Quietly present,
Silently waiting.
To be recognised.
And what you will come to recognise.
Is that your true nature is.
.
.
Conscious awareness.
