In this meditation, we consider each of the chakras and notice our response to the qualities of each. We mindfully observe our reaction and intend to be okay with whatever comes up for us. We notice our natural inclination and our judgments of ourselves and others from a place of neutrality. Or not! Just noticing and letting the breath anchor and return us.

Let's make ourselves comfortable.

Finding a comfortable position where our body can rest for a little while.

Our arms and legs in neutral,

Our spine is a little bit taller,

Our head balanced above our spine so everything's in neutral at rest.

And let's take a few deeper breaths.

Settling into our seat and relaxing a little bit,

Relaxing our face,

Our shoulders.

Just for these few moments,

No demands upon us,

Nothing to do.

We get to practice being.

Bringing our attention to our breath and our body.

And if our mind wanders,

We just notice and return.

That's going to be our theme for today.

We're going to notice whatever the practice brings up for us.

So we can imagine ourselves sitting back in our seat and seeing if we can allow whatever comes up as we think about the qualities of the chakra.

And our mind says,

Oh yes,

I'm good at that.

Oh no,

I'm terrible at that.

Can we notice?

Let it be and keep our focus on the present moment.

Staying with the breath and the body for a few moments more.

Observing each detail of the breath.

Observing how we gradually relax and soften.

How it feels as we gradually relax.

So taking our attention to the base of our spine.

We can imagine if that works for us that it's red.

That's the colour associated with the root chakra.

And I'm going to offer to you to allow your breath to flow over or through this area of your body.

Use your imagination any way you like.

You might like to imagine the breath giving this area of the body a bit of a clean and the polish.

And as we consider the qualities of the root chakra,

Just noticing what comes up for you.

Maybe physical sensations,

Emotions or thoughts.

Just seeing if we can notice it all.

So the qualities we associate with the root chakra are being grounded,

Connected to the earth,

Physical body,

Nature,

Safety.

Just being aware of the reaction to each.

Security.

Solidity the physical form.

Being in our body and the physical as opposed to being in the mind.

Having noticed all those qualities in our reaction and how we judge ourselves on these qualities.

Let's return to the breath and the base of the spine.

Bringing our attention a little higher up our spine.

To an area roughly between our navel and the base of our spine.

Allowing the breath to be in this part of the body now.

You can imagine it brushing back and forth,

Cleansing,

Clearing.

If you'd like to you can imagine this being orange like an orange light.

This is the sacral chakra.

Noticing how the qualities associated with this region of the body,

How they feel to us.

Creativity.

Creativity in the physical and creativity in the formless.

And an energetic creation.

Sensuality.

Sexuality.

The creative principle of the feminine and the masculine.

Our ability to enjoy,

Feel pleasure,

Create joy.

Noticing noticing noticing.

And returning to the breath.

Bringing our attention a little higher up to the centre of the body,

About level with the end of our breastbone.

Our solar plexus chakra.

Associated with the colour yellow.

And letting the breath flow here.

Keeping the breath relaxed.

And feeling comfortable.

What comes up when we consider these qualities?

Determination.

Personal power.

Drive.

Relationship.

Winding.

And as best we can allowing whatever comes up to come up and releasing it all and returning to the breath bringing the attention a little bit higher up to the region of the heart and we can imagine this as green or pink or a combination of the two allowing the breath to move through this area of the body the heart is often the focus of a spiritual practice it connects the physical world of the lower chakra with the formless world of the chakra above and many humans have closed down this area of the body they've got a tight band around their chest because of their pain their wounds their struggle noticing noticing how it feels to contemplate the qualities of this region connection connection to people or the love of people connection to our world around us or the love of our world and the connection to something more subtle and non-physical openness judgment and non-judgment acceptance noticing any judgment we have of ourselves and returning to the breath bringing our attention to the region of our throat imagining the breath and a blue beautiful blue color in this area this region of the body is associated with our ability to communicate to communicate within our own selves with our body and with the external world with people to speak our own truth so to speak the truth that we find in our own heart or our tendency not to speak our truth allowing whatever that is and returning to the breath and bringing our attention to the space between our eyebrows watching the center of our head directly behind the center of our eyebrows and allowing the breath to pass through this region of our body with a lovely deep purple we associate the eyebrow chakra with our vision the clarity of our vision our understanding our wisdom from understanding the knowledge that we have acquired and our ability to shape things with our vision returning to the breath and then coming to the crown of the head and we can visualize this as a thousand petal lotus flower with rainbow sparkles and white light just noticing how that feels and this we associate with our antennae to the universe our ability to connect with the non-physical and to make it part of our physical world noticing however that feels for us and returning to the body and the breath as a whole knowing we are exactly where we need to be and all the judgments we have about ourselves we are exactly where we need to be for our next step in evolution and learning slowly taking a few deeper breaths energizing breaths and bringing movement to the body arms and legs and the whole body and returning to our waking state gradually thank you for practicing with me
