This is a nature meditation that uses fog as a means to be comfortable being in the gap or not knowing a situation or being in confusion.
In this meditation we will bring ourselves into the present moment using fog.
This can be done indoors in a quiet room or it can be done out in nature when it's foggy.
So find a place that's comfortable to sit down or to stand if you wish.
And if you're outdoors allow the fog to be around you and notice it.
And if you're at home visualize deep thick fog.
Imagine the fog all around you and all you can see is a periphery around you.
When you look ahead there's deep thick fog.
If you look behind you there is deep thick fog.
So just noticing the space around you that you can see.
This is the present moment.
This is what you can see in this moment.
So just relaxing in your body.
Gently inhaling through your nose.
Exhaling through your mouth.
And allow this fog,
This not knowing to settle in you as you breathe in and you breathe out.
Notice if the mind is busy with trying to fix your way through a question or some confusion.
Or thinking about the future or going back into the past.
Just notice those thoughts.
There's no need to fix them or do anything.
And if you find that your attention is going to those thoughts,
Your energy is going to those.
Just relax,
Let go.
Noticing the thought but not being involved.
And use the imagery of the fog to remind you that you are in this present moment.
Where the future is unclear and you can no longer see the past.
Just the muffled feeling of fog all around you.
Allowing the fog to settle around you as you breathe in and breathe out.
Now I invite you to allow the fog to hold you in this space of confusion.
To allow the fog to just settle and be with you in its fuzzy embrace.
Feel how it softens the edges of the world around you.
Softening sounds,
Softening images.
Allow it to soften the hard edges of confusion.
Of not knowing inside of you.
Just gently breathing in and breathing out.
Allowing thoughts to go by you.
Noticing any sensations or emotions in the body.
And again noticing them.
But no need to engage with them.
Just they're there.
Whatever sensations or emotions they are.
Welcoming them,
You don't have to be in them.
Allowing the fog to soften feelings of fear,
Of confusion.
Of uncertainty.
Just allowing it,
The fog,
To soften it.
And I invite you to bring your focus to your feet.
Whether you're sitting or standing.
And know that whilst in this confusion,
The ground still holds you.
The earth still supports you.
And begin breathing down into your feet.
Bringing your breath down as far as it can go.
And breathing out from your feet and feeling the ground's support holding you.
And the fog embracing you.
And relaxing into this space of confusion.
Of I don't know.
And allow it to settle.
And in a moment I'm going to invite you to open your eyes.
So bringing your focus away from your feet but know that they are supported at all times.
When you know something and when you don't know something.
Ground supports you when you're confused and it supports you when you're clear.
It supports you when life is foggy and it supports you when life is sunny.
So just opening your eyes.
If you're in your room,
Just imagine the fog around you and look at it with open eyes.
And if you're outdoors,
See the fog.
Really see it as if you're seeing it for the first time.
And allow yourself to experience it as if you've never seen fog before.
And taking a big inhale and an exhale.
Give thanks to the fog for this moment of confusion.
Because fog never stays around all the time.
At some point it always lifts.
