Let's talk a little bit about the strengths of highly sensitive people.
We have a lot of challenges.
We have some things that we need to,
You know,
Work around or be creative with,
You know,
To make our lives better.
And we do have a lot of strengths and there are definitely gifts to this trait.
So I want to talk about those today.
One strength that I think of is that we are deeply in touch with the arts.
So that might be through music,
Through film,
Visual art,
Really any type of creative endeavor we might have more appreciation for compared to a non-HSP.
We tend to be more creative,
More expressive,
Have lots of unique ideas,
And really connect deeply emotionally,
Mentally with other people and other people's creativity.
Another strength is that we have really strong emotional skills.
We tend to be more aware of our emotions,
More in tune with others' emotions,
Too.
Sometimes this can become a challenge if we don't really have the skills yet of navigating emotional boundaries or protecting our energy.
You know,
If we're absorbing the emotions of others,
It can get overwhelming.
But on the flip side,
You know,
Once we have the skills to navigate those things a little bit better,
Having that emotional awareness can really be a strength.
It can help us in our relationships,
In our work,
Even in our perception of ourself.
Another strength,
And this is kind of connected to the last one,
But we have typically very strong empathy.
So we are able to connect with other people,
Really understand their perspective,
Have a good understanding of their emotions,
You know,
Who they are.
We can just really pick up on a lot of information.
We're very tuned in to our surroundings,
And that includes other people.
And we tend to notice those emotional and social cues that people may not pick up on,
Or we're very aware of the subtleties in those things.
So maybe body language or other cues.
We also tend to have deep intuition,
So that gut feeling is very strong.
Oftentimes we need to develop some trust in ourselves and to learn to trust that intuition.
In speaking with a lot of HSPs,
It's a common experience to have had some,
Like,
Distrust with ourselves and struggle with listening to our intuition because we question,
You know,
If other people are not thinking this or feeling this,
Am I wrong?
But since we are in the minority of the population,
Right,
HSPs make up about 20% of the population,
We are going to have a different perception than some other people.
So,
Like,
Leaning into that intuition,
Learning to trust it can provide a huge gift.
There are so many strengths that HSPs have,
But the last one I want to talk about is the fact that we have more self-awareness.
We have the ability to enjoy a deep relationship with yourself.
We typically have a rich internal life,
Meaning we have lots of interesting thoughts,
Emotions,
Just a lot going on inside.
And if we pay attention to that and learn to enjoy it and appreciate it,
It can really lead to a deep,
Fulfilling,
Meaningful relationship with yourself.
So if any of those qualities resonated with you,
I would encourage you to at least take a moment to acknowledge them,
Give yourself some appreciation,
Some love.
If it would feel helpful for you,
You could spend a few minutes even journaling or writing down those traits and exploring,
You know,
How have they served you?
How has your life been better because of this trait?
All right,
That's all for now.
Take care.
