Hello!

Welcome to this guided mindfulness art-making session.

We'll spend this time trying an art practice and reflecting on the process.

Remember,

This is an opportunity to practice non-judgment.

In other words,

Remember that your art doesn't have to look a certain way or even look good,

Whatever that means.

We're making art for the sake of making it.

First things first,

Grab some paper and whatever drawing materials you'd like to use today.

Some options are markers,

Crayons,

Colored pencils,

Pens,

Oil pastels.

Choose what's available to you and what feels right for today.

Take a moment to get your supplies and find a comfy place to sit.

You might pause here if you need a minute to get settled.

Alright,

Let's get started.

Set your supplies down and take a deep breath.

You may choose to close your eyes at this point if that feels safe for you.

Notice how your body feels.

Is there any tension,

Pain,

Or tightness?

Notice any sensation without judging it?

Take a breath in and out.

One more in and out.

If you closed your eyes,

Go ahead and open them.

Look at your materials in front of you.

Notice the colors,

Textures,

Maybe even smells of the materials.

Take a breath.

Now,

First thing you'll do is make a circle.

Notice any thoughts or emotions that come up when looking at your circle.

If judgment comes to your mind,

Take a breath and let it go.

Now,

Fill your circle with whatever materials you choose.

You may choose to make jagged lines,

Smooth curved lines,

Or even dots.

Follow your intuition here.

Practice playfully exploring the process.

As you continue your drawing,

Notice what you hear.

Notice what you smell.

Notice what you see.

Notice what you feel in your body.

Enjoy the process of creating.

Take a few cycles of breath here.

As you do so,

Find a place to stop your drawing.

If you would like more time,

You might choose to pause the recording now and press play when you feel like you're finished.

Alright,

Go ahead and put your materials down.

Look at your image.

What do you feel?

Notice it without judgment.

You might feel joy in the fact that you just created something or embarrassment if it doesn't look the way you thought it might.

Whatever feelings come up,

Let them be there.

Can you express acceptance for the image you created?

See if you can express acceptance for yourself as the one who created the image.

Close your eyes or soften your gaze.

How does your body feel?

Notice any sensations without judgment.

Take a moment here to reflect on this process of creating something mindfully and intuitively.

As you reflect,

Continue taking deep mindful breaths.

As this practice comes to a close,

Come back to your body.

Notice what you feel.

Thank yourself for creating a moment of peace and rest.

When you feel ready,

You may open your eyes and remember that this practice is here whenever you may need it.

Thank you for creating with me.
