Yoga Nidra: Merging With The Water Element: Tattwa Shuddhi 2
In this session, you dissolve your awareness into apas tattwa (the water element) on the gross, subtle, and causal levels of your being. Merge with a waterfall in a mountain spring as you flow downstream to join with ever -ncreasing rivers before finally emptying into the sea.
Transcript
Prepare for yoga nidra by lying down on your back and take these next few moments to become still and silent.
Make any final preparations to your posture and clothing.
Allow yourself to become perfectly comfortable as you feel the body becoming increasingly more stable,
Steady and calm.
Now take a deep breath in and sigh out loud,
Releasing every muscle in your body during the exhalation.
Quickly scan your awareness from the top of the head to the tips of the fingers and toes.
Feel your whole body together at once.
See a mental image of the surface of the sea under the warm midday sun.
Tiny molecules of moisture evaporate and ascend into the sky,
Forming clouds.
Cloud formations gather over great mountains,
Causing them to cool as sheets of rain begin pouring down,
Nourishing and refreshing the earth.
Streams flow into rivers.
Rivers join into great rivers.
One great river winds its way towards the sea,
Forming deltas that spread across vast distances,
Slowly and gracefully merging back into the sea.
Feel the nourishing qualities of water,
The feeling of fluidity,
Permeability,
The ability to assume any form,
Cleansing the lowest of places and bringing life and beauty everywhere it flows.
Now bring your awareness to the breath.
Feel the soothing ebb and flow of the incoming and outgoing breath,
Flowing in and out naturally.
Just listen to the natural sounds of the breath for these next few moments.
Slowly.
Begin full yogic breathing by inhaling deep into the lower abdomen then up into the chest and collarbones.
Exhale in the reverse direction from the collarbones to the chest and abdomen.
Utilize the full lung capacity with every breath.
Observe a brief pause between the inhalation and exhalation and remain a witness to the wave-like motions of the full,
Complete breath.
Just remain a detached witness to the wave-like motions of the natural breath.
Now formulate your sankalpa,
Your intention for doing this practice.
Or you can silently repeat any positive affirmation three times silently.
Now return your focus to the body.
Feel the fluidity of the body.
Surrender to the surface beneath you,
Feeling your body sinking down.
Feel the points of contact between your body and the surface beneath you.

The whole body has become like water.
Now become sensitive to the breath in relation to the body.
Remain a passive observer to the natural motions of the breath.
Begin mental alternate nostril breathing.
Exhale left.
Exhale right.
Inhale right.
And exhale left.
Continue mental alternate nostril breathing as you extend the visualization to include your entire body.
Inhale from the left toes all the way up to the left nostril.
Exhale from the right nostril all the way to the right toes.
Exhale from the right toes all the way to the right nostril.
And exhale from the left nostril all the way down to the left toes.
This is one round.
Continue while counting each round backwards from 21.
19.
Now drop the counting and the breath visualization and become aware to the silence and stillness of inner space.
And within inner space recreate the water element.
Taste is the sense which is related with the water element.
Bring your attention to the taste which is currently in your mouth right now.
Be aware of this taste.
As different foods are named,
Create the experience of each taste with intensity as if you were eating that very food right now.
Imagine you are eating a strawberry.
Recall the taste and re-experience it right now.
Hold it for a few moments and then let it go and create the taste of chocolate.
Ice cream.
Orange juice.
Taste the sweetness of a ripe mango.
Taste the sourness of a lemon.
Now taste onion.
Ginger.
Re-experience the taste of milk.
Butter.
Cheese.
The taste of a salty pretzel.
White sugar.
V Hades.
Yogurt.
Wheat living art and fresh warm rice.
Now again return your awareness to the inner space pervading your body.
And imagine yourself sitting in a mountain stream beneath a waterfall.
Above you is water.
Below you is water.
Water is falling all around you like a curtain.
Feel the weight of the water as it falls down upon you.
Feel yourself becoming fluid and merging with the water.
Feel yourself flowing like water.
Ice cold water.
Notice the feeling of being pulled downstream with the current of the water.
You flow without resistance.
Taste the cold water.
Now return your focus to inner space.
See the space of Chittacosh in front of your closed eyes.
And in the space visualize Lord Vishnu reclining on the Sheishnaga,
A large black cobra with many hoods.
See them floating in the middle of an ocean of milk.
See a large pink lotus emerging from Vishnu's navel upon which Brahma is sitting.
See Devi Lakshmi representing wealth,
Power and glory sitting at Vishnu's feet.
See this entire scene clearly and with intensity.
A large black cobra with many hoods floating on an ocean of milk.
On this cobra,
Lord Vishnu,
Blue in color,
Representing the infinite,
Is reclining in Yoga Nidra.
Brahma is sitting on the pink lotus emerging from Vishnu's navel.
The creator is emerging from the infinite.
Lakshmi,
The goddess of wealth and the consort of Lord Vishnu,
Is massaging his feet.
Visualize this image for a few more moments.
Vizu biggest See the serene face of Lord Vishnu,
Radiating contentment and peace.
Now,
Again,
Recall your sankalpa.
Or the same affirmation from earlier.
And repeat it three times mentally with enthusiasm.
Now,
Begin to extrovert your awareness back to the physical body and the waking state.
Externalize your awareness,
Creating a mental image of your surrounding environment.
Feel the stability of your body lying in shavasana.
And whenever you are ready,
Take a deep breath in and sigh out loud,
Stretching and opening your eyes to end this session.
The practice of yoga nidra is now complete.
Om shanti shanti shanti.
Hahri om.
