It's a wonderful day today to continue the practice of meditation and the practice of spirituality.

I was remembering a very wise quote that I had written a long,

Long time ago.

Somehow,

Going through some of my papers and notes,

I re-read this quote.

It was something like,

How wonderful it is to be grateful for a new day.

It was something like,

The first thing you can do when you wake up,

Is you open your eyes and come back to this mundane world,

And you're aware that you're here.

Not to think,

Okay,

What next?

What is there to do?

How am I going to fit it in?

And,

You know,

Your mind is already racing ahead of itself,

And exploring all sorts of situations that you need to complete during your day.

How wonderful would it be just to come back to a sense of presence and in the sense of presence to just appreciate this feeling,

This deep feeling,

Not from the mind,

As you know now,

But from deep within yourself,

From this space of feeling.

I call this space of the heart,

And just from this space,

Allow this sense of gratitude that you are here and this world is beautiful,

Even if it seems that there is all sorts of other things that make this difficult to understand.

The world is beautiful because you are here,

Present,

In this moment,

And in this moment,

There are infinite possibilities,

Infinite situations that you can never know about unless you align yourself to the space of this moment with a positive feeling and the positive feeling of gratitude is one of the attributes of liberation or enlightenment.

To be grateful means that you are detached from the perspectives that the mind is usually busy with.

So,

To just wake up in the morning with that as being your first thought,

As you open your eyes and breathe in the world and say,

Hello,

I'm back,

From dreams or from deep sleep,

I'm back,

And it is wonderful to be back.

Already you set in motion a whole structure that,

Even if challenged during the day as all sorts of experiences throw themselves at you,

The structure is maintained,

The subtle structure of that thought carries on throughout your day.

So,

The positive structure is there even if you cannot see it,

Think it,

Feel it,

Experience it.

It is there in the background in the same way as the subconscious mind.

You can't see it,

You can't understand it,

Experience it directly at least,

But it is there in the background.

This is known,

Like electricity,

Even though you don't understand what is going on,

You know how to turn a light on.

It's just a simple technique that allows the flow of electricity to become visible.

And this sense of gratitude is more than a technique,

It is reaffirming the structure that is always there.

And this structure is the essence or the light of your being.

And this light,

Even if dimmed by the shadows of your mind,

Even if constricted by the stress and anxiety that we have to deal with because we are human beings,

Is still maintained,

Still in the background.

But your reaffirmation of the structure,

You waking up with this sense of gratitude,

Allows for the structure to become much more real.

In a biological sense,

The neurons in your brain begin to fire and wire in a different way.

But the first thing you think about is stress or anxiety.

If the first thing you think about is all the things that you haven't done or you can't do or is difficult or you just can't deal with it,

It's not another Monday sort of attitude,

Then you rewire the neurons in your brain in a certain way and that creates limitation.

The structure then becomes limited simply because it can't fit into the structure that you are reaffirming within your brain,

Within the chemistry of your body.

So how interesting it is,

Even if you don't understand,

Just like electricity,

I don't really comprehend how it flows into the light bulb and you just turn a switch and it just lights up the room.

How wonderful.

Even though you may not understand the dynamics of the structure,

Because it's invisible to the mind at least,

There it is in the background and you trust this is part of spiritual practice.

You trust that all you have to do is bring the sense of gratitude,

Which is an expansive state.

It is an expansive state that goes beyond the mind.

It brings your emotions and brings your body into a sense of space,

Gives space,

So that those aspects of yourself can manifest in a multitude of interesting ways.

So the gratitude,

Just because you're feeling gratitude doesn't mean you will feel good.

This is what people say,

I did this and it just doesn't work for me.

I wake up in the morning and I'm trying to feel good by wanting to appreciate everything,

But it just doesn't work for me.

Of course it won't work if what you're expecting is an immediate result from your actions,

Because then already you are stuck in your mind and you're demanding a reaction to your action.

But it doesn't work like that,

Because in your mind of course everything is dualistic.

So every action you're waiting for a reaction,

Okay,

I've done this,

I've thought that,

Okay,

What's next?

But in the space that you're expanding into,

That is present in this moment and infinite in its nature,

The space is much more complex than the dualism that the mind is comfortable with.

It has a multitude of dimensions that are aligned to the multitudes,

Infinite multitudes of possibilities that are in space.

So what you're doing is just making sure that the structure invites to itself the same structure.

So your gratitude being an attribute of liberation,

Being an attribute of the soul,

The language of the soul,

Then invites the quality of light,

Soul-like experiences that allow for this light to expand into the experience,

No matter what the experience is,

And become a deep learning towards the liberation of your soul,

So that the freedom that is experienced when your soul touches that which is all around,

Inside,

Outside,

Because of this alignment through your feeling of gratitude,

Allows for the experience of oneness to be the learning,

Not the experience of separation.

So then it doesn't really matter that something is working or not working,

Because what is going on is more interesting than your mind's judgment of an experience,

Or your mind's perception of an experience.

What is going on is going on right now,

And you're feeling gratitude as what is going on is perfect,

And you don't have a judgment.

There is no imperfection from your mental process or from your projection of your perceptions into that experience,

So that it colors that experience and becomes something that you like or dislike,

Want or don't want,

Believe is good or you believe is bad.

All that is dropped,

And what happens is that you relax.

See,

As you affirm this space of gratitude,

You're relaxing because you can be yourself.

That is part of gratitude.

You're not affirming gratitude from a mental perspective,

Meaning that you want something,

And this is why you're being grateful,

You're affirming gratitude from the space of being,

So you're sharing the real or the truth of yourself with all in the alignment of the space of meditation or the space of deep thinking or the space of deep contemplation.

There is just an expansion.

There is no hesitation.

There is no pulling back into one limited perspective of thinking.

Your heart expands into the space of sharing.

Gratitude is an attitude of sharing,

Sharing the being of yourself with everything,

Not just people,

Not just situations that are happening around you,

But with the whole awareness that infuses reality.

So gratitude sinks deeper than just emotions or deeper than even the depth of your thinking,

Sinks into the very essence of your being,

And that is awareness.

So your awareness communicates this gratitude with everything,

Not just in the present moment,

But also the past and the future.

That's so interesting because then your gratitude,

The simple act of sharing gratitude,

Begins to change reality,

Begins to manifest reality in a totally different way because your alignment is transformed,

Is transcending the limitations that the mind believes to be your truth.

You wake up with that thought,

It repeats itself over and over again because the structure is reaffirming.

It reaffirms itself because of the joy and the happiness that is felt when the heart opens towards gratitude.

Joy and happiness is infectious.

It is expansive.

It loves to expand simply because it's beautiful,

It is perfect,

And it is the nature of reality when liberated from the karmic particles that prevent one from seeing or experiencing life as it is.

Not as you perceive it to be,

Not as you think it to be or feel it to be,

But as it is.

Our heart,

The depth of our heart,

Loves the truth,

And the truth sets you free.

As you breathe in and breathe out,

Take a few moments in the next few days as you wake up in the morning to just bring this space of gratitude into your awareness,

Into the awareness of what you're doing,

What you're feeling,

What you're thinking.

Just relax the body.

Everything can wait one or two more moments.

Just breathe this deep into the very core of your being.

As you breathe in and breathe out,

Know that this expansion happens throughout the day.

This seed that you have planted within your awareness is nurtured simply because you're alive,

And learning is unstoppable.

Knowledge is part of why you're here.

To receive this knowledge in an open way as you are,

Allowing yourself to be through this space of gratitude,

Means that knowledge sinks deeper and karma is released.

The particles that surround our body,

That surround our thoughts,

That surround our being,

Get released simply because there is no space for them to get stuck.

The space is full of your gratitude.

So understand that this not only allows you to be more positive,

To be more joyful,

To be more happy,

But understand these few moments sets in motion a deep liberation.

It may sound very simple to your mind,

And your mind may wish to sabotage or to say,

Well,

This doesn't really work because it's just another technique,

But practice,

Practice and practice for these next few days and see for yourself the joy and happiness that you invite into your experience.

That is spiritual work.

It is about liberating yourself from suffering.

As you breathe in and breathe out,

You may wish to do this in moments before you're meditating,

To take a few moments to allow the meditation to go to a positive,

Deep connectedness.

You may wish to do this before you go to sleep.

It's a wonderful practice,

And it is truly a gift to be alive.
