Hello and welcome.
I invite you to.
Get as comfortable as possible.
Take a slow,
Gentle breath in.
And exhale.
Allow yourself to arrive here.
Feeling held.
Feel the support beneath you.
Ground.
The chair.
Whatever it may be is holding you right now.
And notice something very simple as well.
You were being held without having to earn it.
You don't have to perform.
Or fix anything.
You don't have to take care of anyone.
You don't have to be needed.
For these few moments.
You can simply be.
And as you settle,
Bring your awareness gently toward the center.
Part of you.
That learned that being needed meant being safe.
And maybe it sounded like this.
Somewhere along the way you learned.
If I'm useful.
And I belong.
If I take care of you.
Maybe you won't leave.
If you need me.
Then I have value.
If I can fix this.
I can prevent pain.
If I'm essential.
I will be loved.
And you don't need to judge these beliefs.
You don't need to force them to go away.
Simply recognize them.
And maybe say inwardly or how they served you.
Thank you.
Thank you to the part of me that learned to survive this way.
Thank you.
To the part of me.
That learned how to create connection by becoming needed.
Thank you to the part of me that tried so hard to make sure that I wouldn't be abandoned.
And now.
You can rest.
You don't.
Have to be needed in order to belong.
You don't have to be essential in order to be loved.
You don't have to rescue someone in order to have value.
You don't have to carry another person's emotions or the choices they make.
Or their healing.
Or even their life.
You are allowed to simply be you.
Not a savior,
Not a caretaker.
Not a rescuer.
Not someone's missing piece,
Simply yourself.
And now I invite you to bring your awareness to the other side of this pattern.
The places where you may have believed.
I need someone else to make me whole.
I need someone to choose me.
So that I can feel worthy.
I need their attention to feel safe.
I need their love.
To quiet the emptiness.
I need this person.
I need this relationship.
I need this.
Again,
You don't have to judge the need.
Need is not weakness.
Longing is not failure.
And the desire for connection is deeply human.
So instead of saying,
I shouldn't need anyone.
Maybe we can look at something gentler.
I can need.
Without abandoning myself.
I can love you without making you responsible for my wholeness.
I can want you.
Or desire you without believing.
I cannot live without you.
I can receive from you without making you my source.
I can allow myself to be supported.
Without surrendering myself.
I can feel loneliness without turning loneliness into an emergency.
I can feel longing.
Without making longing a command.
I can have a need without immediately reaching outside of myself.
To make it disappear.
And now.
Rather than changing the need.
Simply feel it.
What happens.
Want to need.
Is allowed to exist.
Not acted upon,
Not pushed away or suppressed.
Not judged.
Just felt.
And maybe there's a bit of sadness.
Or fear.
Or maybe tenderness.
Maybe an old ache is starting to arise.
Just let it be here.
You don't have to feel the emptiness.
You don't have to get rid of it.
You can accompany yourself through it.
And gently say,
Aye.
I'm here.
Bye.
And listening.
I am not abandoning myself because I have a need.
And maybe this is part of what healing means,
Not becoming someone who has no needs,
But becoming someone who no longer has to abandon themselves.
In order to have those needs met.
Someone who can pause and ask.
What is mine?
And what is yours.
And what belongs to the relationship.
What am I asking another person to carry that belongs within me?
And what have I been carrying for someone else that was never mine?
Now imagine standing at the boundary between yourself and another person.
And there is a space between you.
And that space is not separation.
It is a sacred space.
You don't have to collapse it to experience love.
You don't have to control it.
You don't have to fill it.
And you don't have to disappear into another person.
Can remain yourself.
And they can remain themselves.
Two people.
Connected but not fused.
Loving,
But not consuming.
But not disappearing.
Receiving.
But not surrendering.
And just allow this possibility to move through you.
Connection does not require enmeshment.
Love.
Does not require self-abandonment.
Care.
Does not require rescuing.
Being needed.
Does not determine my worth.
And having needs does not make me a burden.
And now,
Rather than trying to become a different person,
Simply ask.
Can I become free enough?
To relate from choice.
Rather than this compulsion.
What can I choose to give?
Rather than need to give.
Can I choose to help rather than need to rescue?
Can I choose closeness rather than cling to it?
Can I choose solitude?
Without using it as protection.
Can I love without possessing?
Can I receive without becoming dependent?
Can I remain myself?
While being deeply connected to another.
And you don't have to answer any of these,
But just let the questions open something.
Because maybe freedom isn't.
I need no one.
Maybe freedom is,
I can need someone without losing myself.
I can love someone.
Without losing myself.
I can be loved without making their love.
The measure of my worth.
And now imagine gathering back the energy you have placed into being needed.
The energy spent anticipating.
Fixing and Managing.
Rescuing.
Proving.
Pleasing.
Or heating.
Chasing.
Controlling.
And gently call that energy home.
Not away from others,
Home to yourself.
Let your energy return.
Let your attention return.
Let your heart and feel in your body what it is like to simply belong to yourself.
Not perfectly,
Not completely healed.
Not independent of everyone.
Just here.
Existing.
Enough.
Deep breath in.
And quietly repeat.
I do not have to be needed to be worthy.
I do not have to be completed.
To be whole.
I do not have to abandon myself.
To be loved.
I am allowed to have needs.
I am allowed to receive.
I am allowed to give freely.
And I am allowed to belong to myself.
And from belonging to myself,
I am free to love.
I'm free to need.
Free to receive and to give.
Free to remain.
Free to let go.
I am free to choose.
Take another slow breath in.
And exhale.
Nothing to fix.
Nothing to prove.
Nothing to become.
Just this breath.
This moment.
Just you.
Maybe one final question to carry with you.
Can I become free enough?
To relate from choice.
Rather than compulsion.
And let that answer unfold in its own time.
Let's simply rest here.
I invite you to gently wiggle your fingers and toes,
Gently move the body.
And in your own time,
Letting this question unfold.
Resting in the awareness.
And this is something you can come back to again and again if you need to.
Be reminded in this meditation.
Thank you for sharing your practice with me.
May your day be blessed.
Namaste.
