This is why seeing the truth of things is so powerful,
Because it flips it right side up and you see what's actually going on,
So now you can actually do something about it.
If there's pain,
If there's conflict,
If there's drama,
If there's suffering,
This can't not work.
The question is,
Are you going to show up and look?
This is the ancient promise,
The truth will set you free.
Do you see how profoundly true that is?
The result and the promise of healing this misunderstanding is one of absolute freedom.
Or if anything,
It's more freedom.
Which is also to say,
Less of the thing that you don't want.
And isn't that a fundamental craving?
In one way we can say a fundamental craving is for freedom,
But in one way,
Maybe a more realistic way,
It's we crave a little less bullshit,
And that would be okay,
Right?
Like if we got five percent less bullshit every year on our journey,
That would be pretty magical.
But in order for that to happen,
We have to see that we are the creators of the bullshit.
Right?
Because if you think the bullshit is out there in life,
You're just going to try and control everything,
And try and think that everyone should be different.
Which is you putting more bullshit into the world,
And so you're getting the opposite of what you want.
This is why seeing the truth of things is so powerful,
Because it flips it right side up,
And you see what's actually going on,
So now you can actually do something about it.
And yeah,
This is a path of radical self-honesty.
But again,
This is what we've been avoiding for all sorts of innocent egoic reasons,
Because we're scared.
And so it's understandable.
This is why in part I'm continuing this dialogue on the truth that there's nothing to be afraid of.
Because if we can see that a little bit,
Or at least see that there's less to be afraid of than we thought,
Then we see a little bit more that it's okay to look at these things.
And when we look at these things,
They become a little bit more clear,
Which is what helps clean up that filter a little bit.
And you start seeing a completely different life.
And seeing a completely different life,
Guess what?
Gives you a completely different life.
How amazing is that?
This is the ancient promise.
The truth will set you free.
Do you see how profoundly true that is?
This is exactly what I'm talking about.
The misunderstanding is to not see the truth.
I'm seeing a distortion.
I'm seeing an illusion.
I'm not seeing what's really there.
And if you see what's really there,
Which is to see the truth,
It will set you free.
And so beautifully,
If there's pain,
If there's conflict,
If there's drama,
If there's suffering,
First and foremost,
It's okay,
Right?
So often,
The mind looks at this through its filter,
Which then uses it as a reason to judge yourself.
That's not what we're doing here.
If these things are going to be seen,
Truly seen,
They have to first be totally okay.
Because if you don't think they're okay,
Then you won't look at them.
So there's this premise of radical self-acceptance to just let everything be what it is.
There's no judgment needed.
And then we can ask,
Okay,
What's really going on here?
And then we can start to get a little bit more honesty,
Which is to some way,
Take total experiential accountability.
Which is to at least be open to see,
How am I creating this through my perception?
What am I taking personally that's not really personal?
What am I demanding to be different that really doesn't need to be different?
What am I hiding from?
What's really going on?
You see,
Then you start looking inward and you see a whole nother world.
You see a lifetime of conditioning that is a filter that does not see reality clearly.
And that's okay,
Because it's an opportunity to see something more clearly.
This can't not work.
It can't not work.
The truth sets you free.
The question is,
Are you going to show up and look?
Oh gosh,
That's such a great time to plug my retreat.
It's so perfect.
But you see what I'm saying?
This has to work.
If you can see how obvious these things are,
Then it's just a question of devoting yourself to the process.
In another way,
It's saying faith and trust.
Get out of your own way and show up and look.
And yeah,
You know what?
I know that it's hard.
I get that.
But also,
You know what?
It's supposed to be hard.
Is there anything in life that has an epic reward that does not require some flavor of sacrifice or difficulty?
In one way,
The willingness to show up and do what's difficult is like an inner declaration that says,
This is important.
I'm going to let go of a bunch of nonsense.
And I'm going to put my attention and resources in this direction,
Because something in me knows that this is important.
You know what it reminds me of?
It reminds me of that story of Jesus.
And I'm terrible at reciting this,
Forgive me.
But it's something to the effect of these dudes come around and say,
Hey,
We want to learn from you.
We want you to be our teacher.
And he says,
OK,
Go sell everything you own and follow me.
Something like that.
Do you see in a way it's like that's not what you have to do.
It's illustrating a point.
Like,
How important is this?
And hopefully what you're beginning to see.
And I guess in a way,
This is just my perspective.
But this is the most important thing.
It affects everything in my life,
Right?
Healing my perception.
Is there anything more important than that?
If the only thing I'm experiencing is my perception?
No,
It's paramount.
And as human beings,
We avoid this so much.
And we go and try and fix other things rather than going to the source.
Because again,
I understand it's scary.
It's scary to go to the source to really see how you see.
Which is also like saying to really get that honest with yourself.
Right?
In one way,
Why this is so difficult.
It's like this.
Let me see if I can paint a picture.
Look at it this way.
Imagine that all of your inner conflict and drama is a collection of judgment that you've had towards other people proclaiming that you're right.
And that has become the foundation on which you stand.
That's your identity now.
And now you're being asked to see that it's all bullshit.
Right?
It's not to say that it's all your fault.
It's just to say that none of it's true.
And can you see the threatening nature of that?
Especially if someone has this fear of inadequacy,
Fear of not being enough.
Then that's the last thing that they want to see.
Because that will just be massive evidence that they're not enough.
Right?
Like,
Wait,
I've been wrong this whole time?
That becomes a painful thing to see.
But that's just another door we walk through.
Where it's like,
No,
It's not that you've been wrong.
It's just an innocent misunderstanding.
If anything,
It simply says that you're not better than anyone else.
And if you're trying to be better than anyone else,
You certainly don't want to see that you're not better than anyone else.
Which is interesting,
Actually.
To be terrified of equality.
But that terror is only there because we're so afraid of not being enough.
And so we're trying to prove ourselves as better than other people.
Which goes absolutely nowhere.
All right.
That was fun.
Thanks for hanging out with me.
