Is our consciousness, driving our money decisions, or our lack of consciousness, driving our money decisions? Conscious Cache is about creating the life we love. How we think, how we feel, how we generate ourselves, and sharing tools that we can count on for building ourselves and those around us.

This is Conscious Cash and I'm your host,

Thomas DeShooter.

This is a show about money.

It's not like any other show about money because it's not about getting rich.

It's not about having all the money.

It's about seeing money as energy and learning to harness that energy for your best outcomes.

To live the life you want to live with no regrets,

No excuses,

And with grace and ease.

Ha ha!

I always like to start shows with a ha ha for some reason.

Welcome to Conscious Cash.

This is episode two and this week we're going to be focusing on money mirrors you.

Everything is a reflection of you.

I heard that from the late great Neil Peart that everything outside of him was a reflection of who he was and so when he wrote songs it was important for him to understand what that looked like and to process that.

So if we work forward in the world of money understanding that it is a reflection of who we are or of what we're thinking or of what our typical responses are or our trained responses there's some work that can be done.

How do you feel about money?

What is it that you think of when you think about money and are those things that you thought or were they given to you passed on from others?

Parents,

Grandparents,

Siblings,

Teachers.

In other words some of the work to be done is to understand what we think about money and where those thoughts came from.

And if everything is a reflection of who we are that's really what conscious cash digs into.

Is our consciousness driving our decisions or our lack of consciousness driving our decisions?

When it comes to spending money we can be selective.

When it comes to investing money we can be selective.

And are we?

Or are we just responding the way we always have or the way we have been taught to think about money?

Are we caught in a consumerism loop and we're just reacting to life to get feel good moments in the immediate as opposed to understanding what we really want to create with our money.

And so what are you spending your money on?

Where are you investing your money?

Are these things aligned with your values?

Is the money mirroring you on a deeper level or just on an immediate pleasure level?

Another thing to look at is say there is an area in your life that is working really well and money tends to be a struggle.

Well what is it about that area of your life that's working really well that you can take and apply it to how you approach money?

How you converse about money?

Maybe you're really good at conversations with friends,

With other people.

Maybe you're really good at listening.

What are the skill sets involved in that that have allowed you to be who you are in those areas and can you take some of the learnings from that and apply them to your cash?

To how your cash flows in and out of your life.

So how can you bring what is working in another area into your cash consciousness?

If you're not familiar with the amygdala,

It's a little almond shaped center of your brain that drives a lot of our first decisions.

It is an emotional response system.

So when you think of fear and fear approaching you or suddenly showing up in front of you,

That is what is triggered.

Well you open a bill and it's larger than you thought.

You get your car fixed and it's costing more than you thought it was.

And what is that first response?

What is the first trigger?

What is the fear or the energy that shows up as soon as that happens?

And do you have a process to then work through that and come out the other side of it with a good strategy or a way to work around it?

Or,

And I've done this myself,

Or do you end up just going,

Ah,

The heck with this?

I'm just going to go buy something that I want anyway.

Screw it.

I'll figure it out later.

Not good or bad.

Is that what is happening though?

Are there moments when that is happening?

I heard this term recently again.

It's almost like I heard it again for the first time.

Neuroplasticity.

The ability for our brains to change over time and adopt new things.

And that's in a lot of cases what we need to do around our cash consciousness is to start shifting our view,

Our thinking,

Our way of responding,

Our way of dealing with it.

Somebody shared with me a story the other day that every time they went to buy a car,

They had a conversation of they can't afford a good car,

So they would buy a junker and spend a lot of time and some money fixing it and continually fixing it and finally getting it to a place where it's running really well and it's great.

And then they would sell it right when the car was beginning to work its best for them.

And they realized that they had this idea that they didn't deserve a good working car.

And finally,

The last car they bought was a used car,

But only a few years out of its birth date.

And it cost them more than they'd ever spent on a car before,

But they came to the conclusion that they deserved this and they went about the process of understanding how can I afford this and what will I be willing to give up?

What other things in my life can I give up in order to have this pleasure that I want because I'm tired of buying a junker and fixing it up.

Do I deserve this was a question they asked themselves and they came to the conclusion that yes,

They did.

And then they went about figuring out a way to make it happen.

Another conversation I had recently,

Which might be just a little off topic,

But could be integrated into our cash consciousness.

We were talking about meetings and having all sorts of people at the meeting and there was the meetings where we were asked to analyze the person that talks too much all the time.

And what are the other people in the room thinking,

Including yourself,

And then what is the cost or what is the talker,

The constant talker missing out on?

And so we went through that exercise and it was interesting what came back.

I'm not going to share the details.

It's unimportant.

The next part of the exercise,

Though,

Was to look at the person that never talks,

That never shares at the meeting.

What is the effect that they have on the others in the room and what do they miss out on?

And I loved what one of the persons shared and it was this that they're really missing out on giving of themselves.

And it's not a question of whether they have the ability or not,

Or it's right or wrong.

It's just they're missing out on the giving of themselves.

And as you give of yourself,

You tend to receive from others.

So if we just look at that in the sense of having a conversation when we begin to offer our thoughts,

Our feelings,

Our understandings around something to another person,

It's most likely that they're going to share back what their thoughts,

Feelings and understandings are.

And between the two of you,

You begin to form a dialogue that feeds each other.

It's like their point,

Your brain immediately takes it in and begins to formulate it around what you want to say.

And does it does it support?

Does it retract from what you wanted to say?

How does that dialogue begin to shift?

And the more that each other shares with one another,

The deeper that conversation goes.

And I see that in the world of money,

Our cash consciousness,

That as we are willing to let go of our attachment to the cash,

Willing to open up ourselves to helping another or to lose some of the I can't afford it or that's too expensive or gosh,

I'm always broke.

When we give up those thoughts,

Then we allow the flow of money to show up greater.

So how often are you saying to yourself,

I don't have the money,

I can't afford it,

That's too expensive.

How often are you.

Criticizing others for their ability to attract wealth,

For their ability to grow money.

How often do you have money positioned as a bad evil thing as opposed to a tool that you can use to get the things in life that you really want to enjoy?

Because in most cases,

Things cost money.

Experiences sometimes cost money.

And we can't have all the experiences we want when there's a price attached to them.

So how do we get those?

It's not about money being on a pedestal.

It's not about money being a god.

It's about money being a tool.

And how do we open up ourselves enough so that it's just a flow,

A flow of cash consciousness.

Share whatever comes up for you around this conversation.

I'd love to hear from you.

I'd love to know what you're thinking,

What is triggering or what you even think of what I have to say.

It would be valuable information for me to know what is resonating or what's not resonating.

Makes me think of when I was in a band and playing music,

You know,

It was almost like it was better if somebody hated my band or loved my band,

But mediocrity or silence was the killer.

It's like we're not having an impact.

Our music is doing nothing.

And so one of the things I'm looking for in this conversation is something being triggered for you.

Is there something we're hitting on that we can learn together and grow from?

That would be fantastic.

I did an exercise recently,

A weather report on how am I feeling and putting it in a weather statement.

And when I was asked that question,

I had sunny with periods of cloud and accumulating cloud in the east.

I don't even know where that came from.

And I'm not quite sure I knew what it meant other than I knew I was in a sunny disposition.

I felt very good.

There had been some periods of cloud recently,

And I think the clouds in the east were those things that were moving away from me.

I didn't get the sense that it was there was clouds coming.

It was more like those clouds had drifted by and we're now accumulating in the east.

And I wasn't clear what they were going to do,

But I wasn't feeling like impending doom.

So my question to you is,

Could you put your feelings into a weather report right now?

And what would that look like?

Would it be sunny?

Would it be rainy?

Would it be,

You know,

Dark clouds ahead?

How would you put that in a weather report and are you feeling like there are dark clouds ahead and how could you then shift that?

Thanks Thomas. Love the wordplay in Conscious cache!... was surprised and pleased you were talking about actual money.. even typing that words gives me a lump in my chest.. I practice gratitude and I feel genuinely blessed but my relationship with money... like a non committed bf who never hangs around for long but just gives me bits to keep going and hang onto so I'm not starved but not secure either! So much BS out there about 'instant manifestation' and stuff, that I am probably a sucker for but money and I have had an embattled relationship for my half century on this planet. Weather wise I would say, grey cloud front with burst of sunshine.. storms coming in off Atlantic but somehow manage to abate them.🙋🏻‍♀️🌏☘️
