This is a practice of Yoga Nidra for general healing. Yoga Nidra is commonly known as “sleeping yoga”, but it is more than sleeping. The goal is not to sleep, but instead to achieve a state called “turiya” that is beyond waking, beyond sleeping, and beyond dreaming. Your mind and body are asleep, but your awareness is awake and aware of itself. It is pure consciousness — unconditioned and independent of the physical. One trick to prevent yourself from falling asleep is to bend your elbows throughout the practice. When you begin to fall asleep, your hands will fall over to the sides and you will be aware that you're dozing off. As you continue to practice, you will train yourself into the state of turiya.
