Welcome to your grounding meditation.
If you're here your system might feel like it's racing.
Maybe your mind is ten steps ahead or your chest feels tight.
This is the flight response trying to protect you.
We aren't going to try to stop that energy,
We're just going to give it a place to land.
If you can,
Stand up.
If you need to sit,
Make sure your feet are flat on the floor.
Close your eyes or just soften your gaze at a spot on the floor.
Now take a slow mindful breath.
Notice the air gently filling your lungs.
Now shift your entire awareness down past your chest,
Past your hips,
All the way to the soles of your feet.
Lift your toes just a fraction and feel the weight shift into your heels.
Imagine your heels are heavy like two stones.
As you breathe out,
Imagine that buzzing or racing energy in your head beginning to drain,
Like water traveling down a pipe.
Feel it move down your spine,
Through your legs and exiting through your heels into the floor.
Feel the floor pushing against you.
The earth is holding your entire weight.
You don't have to hold yourself up right now.
Let the earth do the work.
Say to yourself,
I am allowed to land.
Visualize roots or perhaps thick golden cords extending from your heels deep into the dark,
Cool soil beneath you.
These cords are magnetic.
Every time your mind tries to take flight into a task,
Feel that magnetic pull gently tugging your awareness back down to your feet.
You are like a sturdy oak tree.
The wind of your thoughts might be blowing in the branches,
But your trunk is solid and your roots are deep.
If you feel a buzz in your legs,
That's okay.
That's energy moving.
Let it drain.
There is infinite space in the earth to hold this for you.
Slowly start to wiggle your toes.
Gently press your palms into your thighs,
Feeling the solidness of your own body.
In a moment,
We will open our eyes.
When you do,
I want you to look at one object in the room that feels heavy or still.
A table,
A chair,
A stone.
Let that object be your reminder that the earth is always here and you are always safe to stand your ground.
Take one final breath,
Feeling your heels one last time.
When you're ready,
Open your eyes.
You are here.
You are home.
