I'm Shania Gordon and I am so glad you're here.
I'm a mindfulness meditation instructor and this session is on gratitude.
Gratitude during difficult times.
But before we begin,
I would love to acknowledge a few things.
The practices that I share here,
They're rooted in ancient mindfulness traditions,
And they originated in South and Southeast Asia.
I share them here with respect for those lineages in an adapted,
Trauma-informed,
And secular way.
Also,
I just want to remind you that this space is yours.
There's nothing you need to get right and nothing you need to push through.
My guidance is just an invitation.
Your body and your spirit get the final say.
So as we begin,
I would love to welcome you to this Gratitude in Difficult Times meditation.
In this session.
We will guide you through a practice designed to help you find moments of gratitude.
Even during challenges and difficult times.
This meditation is intended to support you in managing and maintaining a sense of positivity and resilience.
Helping you to see the light amidst the shadows.
Find a comfortable position,
Either lying or sitting.
To somewhere where you can be undisturbed for the next few minutes.
If it's comfortable for you.
I invite you to close your eyes.
Or you can just soften your gaze.
Take a deep breath in,
Filling your lungs completely.
And slowly exhale.
Letting go of any stress or distraction.
Allow yourself to settle into this peaceful moment.
Begin by focusing on your breath.
Notice the natural rhythm of your breathing without trying to change it.
Feel the cool air entering your nostrils as you inhale.
And the warm air leaving your nostrils as you exhale.
With each breath.
Allow yourself to become more relaxed.
And more present.
Now take a moment to acknowledge the difficulties or challenges you may be facing.
It's important to recognize these challenges without judgment or resistance.
As you do so.
Gently remind yourself that even in the midst of hardship,
There's always something to be grateful for.
Think about the small moments of support or kindness that you have received during these times.
These could be from friends,
Family,
Or even strangers who have shown compassion or understanding.
Reflect on how these gestures have helped you to feel less alone.
And more supported.
Feel a deep sense of gratitude for these acts of kindness.
Consider the personal strengths and resilience you have discovered within yourself as you navigate through these challenges.
Reflect on how you've grown,
How you've learned from these experiences.
Acknowledge.
And appreciate your own courage,
Perseverance.
And inner strength.
I now invite you to shift your focus to the aspects of your life that remain positive despite the difficulties.
This might include your health,
A cherished relationship.
Or a meaningful activity that brings you joy.
Take a moment to fully appreciate these positive aspects.
And how they provide comfort and balance during tough times.
Visualize a warm,
Glowing light surrounding you.
This light represents your gratitude and appreciation.
Providing warmth and comfort amidst challenges.
Let this light expand and fill your entire being.
Bringing a sense of peace.
And resilient.
Reflect on any small victories or moments of relief you have experienced.
These might include achieving a small goal.
Finding a moment of peace.
Or simply getting through a difficult day.
Feel gratitude for these moments of progress and relief.
Take a few deep breaths.
Inhaling the positive energy of gratitude.
And exhaling any remaining stress or negativity.
Allow the feelings of appreciation to infuse you with a sense of calm and strength.
As you prepare to end this meditation.
Remind yourself that gratitude can be a powerful tool.
And finding balance and resilience.
During difficult times.
Carry this sense of appreciation with you as you continue to face challenges.
Allowing it to bring you comfort and strength.
When you are ready.
I invite you to gently bring your awareness back to the present moment.
Maybe you wiggle your fingers and toes.
Gently stretch your body.
Taking a deep breath in.
And as you exhale,
Open your eyes.
Feeling refreshed,
Uplifted.
And deeply appreciative of the moments of gratitude you have found.
Express gratitude to yourself for taking this time to focus on you,
Even in difficult times.
It has been an honor to guide you.
