Hello friends.
This is a Shavasana practice.
That was taught to me by my yoga teacher.
Tony Rivers,
Who was a student of Iyengar.
Shavasana is traditionally done at the end of a yoga session,
But it can be done anytime.
To rest,
Relax the mind.
Reset your nervous system.
And allow the whole body-mind to rest.
So set yourself up.
In a comfortable place lying on your back.
You may want to support your head.
You can place a bolster under your thighs.
To support your lower back if you'd like.
And lie yourself down.
Make sure you're lying in a straight line.
If you're not sure,
Just look down at your body.
Make sure You're in a straight line.
Your limbs are aligned.
Take the feet about 12,
18 inches apart,
Letting your feet just fall away from each other naturally.
Your arms about 45 degrees from the side body.
Palms up.
Shoulder blades nice and flat under you.
Make whatever adjustments you feel you need to make.
And when you're ready.
Close your eyes.
Close your eyes.
Begin with a slow,
Complete inhalation.
Longer,
Slower,
Complete exhalation.
Surrendering yourself to gravity,
Giving up the total weight of your body to the ground under you.
Do that two,
Maybe three times.
Each exhalation getting longer.
Letting the arms release,
The legs release.
Each exhalation feeling more and more the underside of the body releasing to the ground.
Letting go.
Letting go.
Letting go everywhere And when you've done that two or three times,
Relinquish control of the breath.
Allowing the body to breathe on its own.
Imagine you're lying on the ground.
Under a warm summer sun.
And the heat from the sun is melting your flesh like wax.
Like wax melting from a candle,
The flesh softens,
Slides away from the bones.
Disappears into the earth.
Becoming increasingly aware of your bones.
The bones reveal themselves to the conscious mind.
And without the support of the flesh,
The bones fall to the ground.
Feeling more and more like a skeleton lying on the ground.
Flesh falling away from the bones.
The flesh melted away from the face the eyes melting down into their sockets.
The tongue melting into the floor of the mouth.
Even your brain melting into the back of your skull The bones feeling increasingly heavy on the ground.
It feels like your bones are made of rock.
Rock-heavy bones resting on the ground.
Feels like it would be impossible to lift a bone away from the ground.
The bones feel so heavy on the ground.
Giving up the bones to the earth.
Giving up the mind to the breath Take an inward journey.
Go deep inside.
Imagine a small,
Quiet space.
About the size of your thumb.
Just behind the lower end of your breastbone.
The heart center.
The center point of your breathing.
The center point of your being.
From the heart center,
The mind passively watching the body breathe.
Keeping the mind firmly focused on the breath but trying not to involve yourself with the breath.
Simply being a passive witness.
Thoughts,
Feelings.
External distractions appearing disappearing.
Moving through the consciousness.
Allow them to come.
Allow them to go.
The mind resting.
The mind resting in the stillness.
The silence.
The peace.
The serenity of your heart center.
Breathing.
And relaxing.
Take a slow,
Complete inhalation.
Longer,
Slower,
Complete exhalation.
Allowing the mind back into your physical body.
The mind returning to the room.
Returning to the world.
And slowly,
Slowly opening your eyes.
Take a moment holding that same feeling with your eyes open that you had with your eyes closed and return to this feeling whenever you feel the need.
Keep that inner peace.
Take it with you into the world.
When you're ready,
Slowly wiggle your fingers and your toes.
Stretch your body as you need to.
Before you come up.
Roll over completely onto your side.
And take a few deep breaths.
Take a few deep breaths and then keeping your neck soft.
Your head released.
Use your hands to push yourself up and come to sit.
Strong sitting posture,
Whatever works for you.
Sitting tall,
Shoulders back down.
Palms facing up on the knees.
With the eyes closed,
Breathing through the nose.
Take a slow,
Complete inhalation.
And on the exhalation,
Slowly bow your head towards your chest.
Surrendering your mind.
To your heart center.
Inhale,
Lift the head and open your eyes.
Namaste.
Om Shanti Shanti Shanti.
Be well.
Be happy.
Stay safe,
Keep moving,
Keep grooving.
Be well my friend.
