Welcome!
This is a little meditation or exercise on guilt.
Now,
The facts may not directly apply to you,
But there's a point to be made here,
So see if you can get into this.
Okay,
Think about your mother.
Now,
Put yourself in the most uncomfortable posture you can,
And now think about your mother.
Imagine her sad,
Lonely,
Sitting by her phone waiting for you to call,
A call that probably won't come till next week,
While you're busy having fun and doing exciting things,
Writing TikToks and eating sushi and having sex,
While she's all alone out there in that cold house,
Just waiting by the phone for you to call.
Now,
Take your mother's picture out of your wallet.
You don't have her picture in your wallet?
Open your pictures in Facebook until you find your mother.
You have to go back that far?
Okay,
Go to your phone.
Look at your screensaver.
Oh,
Your mother's not on your screensaver?
How do you feel about that?
Now,
Imagine your mother is sitting right next to you,
Telling you all of the things she thinks about you,
And how you've failed to meet expectations,
How you never got her that perfect Christmas gift,
How you never call enough,
How you never show up,
And how you prefer to spend your time with your friends and that stupid job,
Instead of having dinner with her or taking her to the Bahamas like she's always wanted.
Think about this.
Steep yourself in this emotion.
Now,
Open your eyes,
Get up,
Shake your whole body a little,
Maybe as hard as you can,
And notice that you just experienced the depth of guilt,
And nothing has changed.
What a perfectly useless emotion.
Think of how bad you felt,
And how uncomfortable you were,
And you accomplished nothing.
What a perfectly useless emotion.
Now,
Get over it.
Just get over it.
Go about your day.
If something needs to be done,
Do it.
If not,
Let it go.
But guilt will take all of your energy,
A lot of your time,
And your attention,
And it accomplishes nothing.
Now,
Go about your day,
And have a positive,
Productive,
And guilt-free day.
Bye for now.
