Pursed Lip Breathing is a breathing technique that can be used throughout the day in short intervals of 1-2 minutes, to calm the nerves and bring relaxation and balance to both body and mind. It can also be introduced at bedtime to relax and unwind after a busy day and to prepare the body for the transition to sleep.

Hello my name's Tara Richards and I'll be guiding you through a pursed lips breathing technique for relaxation.

First find a comfortable position either lying down or seated with both feet on the floor.

Close your eyes or lower your gaze and just notice how you're feeling.

For this practice we're going to breathe in through the nose for the count of two and then breathe out through pursed lips for the count of four.

It's as if you're breathing out through a straw.

The breath is slow and steady and you might also visualize a calming image like the sea ebbing and flowing as you breathe in and out.

So I'll guide you through two rounds then I'll invite you to continue by yourself until the music ends.

So breathing in one two and out one two three four.

Breathing in one two and out one two three four.

And continue by yourself.

So so so so And just notice how you're feeling now.

Thank you for meditating with me today and I look forward to meditating again with you soon.

Goodbye.

As you wrote, this is a good practice before going to sleep, perhaps sitting on the side of the bed before lying down. Thanks for these breathing tips!
