Our senses are our gifts.

Let's be present with them.

Welcome to this sensory exploration guided meditation and movement series.

My name is Tanya and I'm here to hopefully encourage you to develop a more mindful approach to living through the use of your senses.

Each practice will focus on one of the five physical senses and even if we are compromised in some way in one area or another we can still visualize in our mind's eye or even invoke a feeling of that particular sense's abilities as best as we can.

However you find yourself today,

Try to foster a sense of playfulness and curiosity as we explore the wonders that are your superpowers.

Let's begin.

So today we are focusing on our sight.

And before we begin,

Just to throw some interesting and fun facts out there for you.

Did you know that the human eye can distinguish millions of colours?

Yes,

Millions of colours.

But we can only see a fraction of the electromagnetic spectrum.

Yes,

I know,

Big word.

But most of the world's light is actually invisible to us.

On that spectrum there are other light colours such as infrared or ultraviolet but we can't see those and so that's why we need those gadgets and bits and pieces to help us see certain things.

You also have a unique eye print.

So just like your fingerprints,

Your iris pattern is actually a one-off.

It is unique to you,

Unique just like you.

And that in itself is something to be super grateful for and super awed by.

So today as we tune into the gift of sight,

Let's first find ourselves a comfortable position.

Whether seated or standing is absolutely fine.

Just go with what's working best for you in this moment.

And when you are ready,

Take a deep breath in through the nose and take a longer exhale out through the mouth slowly.

Again just inhaling through the nose and lengthening the exhale.

Just feeling the air move in and out of the body.

Just noticing the gentle expansion and contraction as we breathe in.

Just start to notice where you're sitting or standing.

Just notice the surface beneath you,

The weight of your body grounding down.

Being held,

Supported.

Taking one more deep breath in and then as you exhale just letting your shoulders soften,

Jaw unclench,

Forehead relax.

Now just gently open the eyes if they were closed and just let your gaze start to rest softly around your environment.

So you're not really looking for anything,

You're just seeing.

Just noticing the play of light and shadow around you.

Just kind of watching how light bounces off of different surfaces.

Maybe you're seeing different textures and shapes and colours,

Different hues,

Different tones,

Vibrancy of millions of colours that we can see.

And as you continue to look around just see if you can notice something that you've looked at maybe hundreds of times before.

Walked past it every day but never really actually seen it.

Just pick an ordinary object and can you start to see the extraordinary in the ordinary?

Just letting your eyes wander slowly around,

Curiously,

Maybe even with a sense of gratitude.

Just taking one last long look around your environment and then if it feels safe to do so just gently closing your eyes again just for a few moments.

Just giving yourself enough time to allow an imprint of the image of beauty that stood out to you the most over the last few moments.

So just picturing that in your mind's eye and perhaps setting an intention to carry that image of beauty with you as you move through your day.

Taking one last deep breath in,

Just hold for a moment and release.

And when you are ready gently open your eyes.

So just before we wrap up our short practice together today I would just like to leave you with a couple of reflection prompts.

So the first question to ask yourself is what colours or details in your environment surprised you the most?

So what did you see?

Maybe it was that object where you saw that extraordinary in the ordinary.

And my second question for you is how does your sense of sight shape the way that you experience the world?

When we live through our senses we return to the here and now,

We are present,

We are grounded,

Alive,

We are whole.

May you continue to move through the world with a sense of curiosity,

Gratitude and joy in all that you perceive.

My name is Tanya,

Thank you for joining me on this mindful exploration.

You can find more guided meditations over on my page.

Until the next time,

Ciao for now.
