Sometimes, focusing too intently on the breath can be counter productive, especially for those who already experience a lot of anxiety. In these cases, it's often better to practice focusing on what is present in our immediate environment without too much attachment or focus. By attending to each sensation, one at a time, and gently lending our attention to various elements that are alive in the present moment, we can better find a sense of stillness and neutral awareness without the heavy anchor of the breath.
