Welcome to this guided meditation centered around the image of a path of sunlight sparkling across a river stretching toward you and meeting you right where you are.
The visualization offers a simple,
Inspiring image to return to whenever you'd like to invite more contentment,
Delight,
And light into your life.
Along the way,
We'll explore how we can open ourselves to receive the goodness that's already here.
Recognize what makes our hearts sparkle and remember that there is enough light for all of us.
You can return to this image anytime you need a moment of brightness,
A reminder of life's beauty,
Or an opportunity to reconnect with a sense of ease,
Joy,
Or contentment.
Let's begin by settling into a comfortable position.
And allowing your body to arrive here in this moment.
Feeling the support beneath you.
And letting the places where your body is in contact with those surfaces sink down a little more with every exhale.
Noticing the natural rhythm of your breathing.
Letting your eyes be soft,
Kind,
And appreciative.
And inviting your body to soften.
Finding softening,
Relaxation in the head.
Shoulders arms and hands.
Torso.
And back.
Legs and feet.
And aware of your whole body sitting here.
And breathing.
And imagining that you're sitting beside a river on a clear morning.
The fog is lifting.
The sun is rising higher in the blue sky.
Perhaps you can hear the call of geese in the distance.
Perhaps you can feel the air on your skin.
And you're simply sitting here.
Watching the river which is like a sprawling stage.
And then,
In the distance,
You notice a spot of light.
A small,
Bright reflection on the water.
And you watch as it begins to stretch.
Slowly lengthening into a path of sparkling light.
The path grows longer and longer.
Extending across the river toward you.
The river and the sun seem to be rolling out a red carpet,
Only better.
Carpet of sunlight shimmering and dancing on the water.
And the path continues to lengthen until it reaches the shore where you sit.
And you find yourself at the end of this luminous trail of sunlight.
And you may wonder if you just happen to be in the right place.
At the end of this trail of light.
And imagining walking slowly along the shore.
Watching the path of sunlight move with you.
Wherever you go,
The path points directly toward you.
It sparkles on the water.
Changing with the movement of the river.
You don't have to follow it.
You don't have to reach for it.
You simply notice that it is here.
The light is meeting you wherever you are.
And you sit down again.
Feeling your face warmed by the Sun Sensing the sunlight penetrating through your skin.
Nourishing your being.
And you notice the path of light on the water gradually becomes shorter.
The farthest reaches of the light begin to disappear.
Until only the closest part remains.
The path grows shorter still,
Narrowing to a single point of light,
Dancing on the water.
A reflection of the sun.
And it may seem somehow like gazing into a mirror.
As if your essence is being reflected back to you.
And as you rest your attention on this small,
Bright reflection.
Imagine that the light has entered you.
You open to receive it.
Perhaps you feel its warmth.
Perhaps you sense brightness within you.
Or perhaps you simply rest with the image.
There's nothing you need to feel or experience in any particular way.
Just allow yourself to receive.
And then,
In the distance,
Another spot of light appears.
And once again,
It begins to stretch across the river.
A new path of sunlight lengthening toward you in a wave of shimmering brightness.
The light you seek,
Seeking you.
And letting these words settle into your awareness.
The light I seek is seeking me.
Perhaps the joy or contentment we long for is not always something we must go out and find.
Perhaps we can also learn to recognize the ways,
Delight.
Or the light is already finding us.
A moment of beauty.
A kind word.
The warmth of sunlight on our skin.
A glimpse of something that makes our hearts sparkle.
The light meets us where we are.
Wherever we are.
Letting your breath become part of this image.
Breathing in the light.
And breathing out,
Imagining the fog lifting.
Breathe in the light.
Breathe out,
Letting whatever has become clouded or heavy soften a little.
There's no need to push anything away.
Simply breathe,
Receive,
And release.
And now imagining inviting another person to join you at the riverside.
Someone you love,
Someone you care about,
Or simply another human being sharing this moment with you.
You point out the path of sunlight on the water.
And you ask whether the light points directly toward them too.
You already know the answer.
It does.
The path of light reaches toward you and it reaches toward them.
There is enough light for both of you.
There's no scarcity,
No competition.
The light that finds another does not take anything away from you.
We need not be in someone else's place to receive what is nourishing.
The river reflects the sun for each of us.
And the light shines on us all.
Notice what happens as you rest in this understanding.
The light finds you wherever you are.
And it shines on us all.
Perhaps there's a little more room in your heart.
Room to delight in another person's happiness without comparing it to your own.
Room to celebrate someone else's good fortune without feeling that your own possibilities have diminished.
Room to recognize that joy or contentment is not a limited resource.
The light is abundant.
Now bring your awareness to the light above you.
The sun shining.
And imagine the sun's warmth and brightness surrounding you.
Filling the space around your body.
And opening to receive that light through the crown of your head.
Allowing it to spread gently through you.
Filling your whole being with radiant,
Sparkling light.
All the way to your fingertips and toes.
Meanwhile,
The sun's reflection shimmers on the river before you.
The light above you and the light before you.
One surrounds you.
And the other seems to mirror something already within you.
Perhaps the brightness you recognize in the world also helps you recognize the brightness in yourself.
Perhaps light or delight is not only something you encounter,
But something you are capable of receiving.
Cultivating.
And sharing.
And just resting with this possibility.
And returning your attention to the river.
Watching the path of light as it changes.
Lengthening Shortening Shimmering FADING Beginning again.
Each wave of sunlight develops in its own time.
Perhaps the next path is wider than the last,
Spreading across the water before narrowing toward you.
Imagining it flowing towards you like a sparkling funnel of light.
Gathering brightness as it extends toward you.
Until it meets the shore and reaches the place where you sit.
And once again,
You open to receive.
Waves of light.
Letting this image become an anchor you can return to.
The spot of light appearing in the distance.
The path slowly lengthening.
The shimmering trail reaching toward you.
The light meeting you exactly where you are.
You don't need to hold the image perfectly.
You don't need to keep every detail in mind.
If your attention wanders,
Simply noticing where it is gone.
And when you're ready,
Return to the river.
Look for the first small spot of light.
Watch it begin to stretch across the water.
And letting the path of sunlight become your object of awareness.
And the mind will wander.
That is what minds do.
And each time you notice that yours has wandered,
You have an opportunity to begin again.
Return to the image of the light.
Or to the words.
The light I seek is seeking me.
Notice its movement,
Its sparkle.
It's changing shape.
Let yourself be curious about it.
Let yourself receive it.
And perhaps as you return again and again,
You'll discover that the practice itself gladdens your heart.
Not because you've done it perfectly,
But because you have noticed,
Returned,
And opened to this moment.
The light is here.
And you are here to meet it.
And now gently letting the image of the river become a little less vivid.
You can return to it whenever you wish.
And before you leave this place,
Inviting you to consider a question.
What are the clouds that block the light?
What makes it difficult for you to notice or receive delight?
Perhaps it is worry about the future.
Perhaps it is comparing your life or your work with someone else's.
Perhaps it's the feeling that you must finish everything,
Solve everything,
Or earn the right to rest before you can enjoy what is here.
And you don't need to answer the question now.
Simply noticing what arises.
An insight might come up as you go about your daily life.
Revealing itself like the sun emerging from behind a cloud.
And remember that clouds do not extinguish the sun.
The light remains even when you cannot see it.
Perhaps your practice is not to make the clouds disappear,
But to become more familiar with the places where the light breaks through.
To notice what makes your heart sparkle.
To allow yourself to enjoy it without immediately looking for what might go wrong.
To trust that another person's light does not diminish your own.
And to remember,
When you find yourself longing for delight,
That you can pause,
Breathe,
And open to what is already here.
The light I seek,
Seeking me.
The light meets me where I am.
Taking a few moments to rest,
Taking in the fruits of this practice.
And feeling your body and the support beneath you.
Noticing your breathing.
And if you wish,
Carrying this image with you.
Perhaps you'll notice a reflection on the water.
Sunlight through a window.
Or a small moment of unexpected beauty.
Perhaps you'll find yourself remembering the river imagery.
Spot of light in the distance,
A path of sparkling sunlight reaching toward you.
The light you seek,
Seeking you.
And if it feels comfortable,
Taking a deeper breath.
And when you're ready,
Gently opening your eyes or lifting your gaze.
May you notice what makes your heart sparkle.
May you receive the joy that finds you.
And may you remember that there is enough light for us all.
Thank you for practicing with me.
