As a Black American woman, direct descendant of enslaved Africans, and longtime fan of Steve, I was understandably wary of this meditation. How could a descendant of one of the world's most notorious colonizing and enslaving nations ("The sun never sets on the British Empire") speak to my spirit about healing the slavery wound? Writing to say that I was pleasantly surprised. The meditation is detailed, specific, thoughtful, and thorough as I expect from Steve. And his words address the descendants of BOTH the enslaved AND enslavers. He has clearly done some basic historical research and seems to come from an authentic, non-performative place. I appreciate his willingness to acknowledge and utilize his privilege in this way. May he be an example and ally to others in this space.
