In this poem, Shannon explores the idea of love, the kind experienced from connection with the Divine. Shannon herself experienced disconnection from the Divine on and off and know it comes from her mind. The truth is none of us are ever cut off from this connection. She shares this poem and practice with you to help you remember that you are a gift in this world. Note: Shannon uses the words God and Goddess in the poem in a non-religious context. It refers instead to the collective energy present in all living things.

Thank you for joining me today.

Let's take time to move into a grounded,

Supportive place.

Find yourself either seated or lying down,

And allow your breath to slow gently,

Calming your insides.

Allow all the things in your mind that don't need to be with us in this present moment to temporarily take a seat outside this circle.

They will be waiting for you when we return.

Now begin by taking a deep breath in,

Moving the breath from the ground,

From the pulse and rhythm of Mother Earth,

Up through your feet,

Your legs,

Into your pelvis,

Up your back,

Through your spine,

Up to the top of your head.

Allow the breath to connect to your higher self.

And as you exhale,

Move that breath and light from your higher self back down your head,

Your spine,

Your legs,

And once again,

Out your feet,

Connecting to Mother Earth,

To her rhythm,

Her love,

Her support.

Take time to do this deep breath one more time.

Pace yourself in the rhythm that feels most honoring to your body.

Take a deep breath in,

And when you're ready,

Exhale.

You are love's extraordinary gift.

If God,

Goddess,

The Divine is love,

Not romantic and kind,

But cherished and deep and abiding,

Then love surrounds us all,

All of the time.

There is no place where love is not found.

And no matter what it looks like around us from this view from the ground,

If God,

Goddess,

The Divine is love,

Then there are no situations in which love is not found.

Where there is need,

Love will go.

Where there is suffering,

Love will flow.

Where there is laughter,

Love plays a part.

Where there is fear,

Love eases the heart.

It is no wonder this bind we are all cinched together by on this planet of ours,

No escape for you or me,

Is a bind of love,

Binding the fate of all humanity.

So look for the love in each person's heart,

No matter how light or how dark.

Because God,

Love is there too playing her part.

Why?

Because you,

You are love's extraordinary gift.

You are the beloved gift from love's very own heart.

It is easy to see love when we are with family or friends,

Who we share connections with.

But love is also found in loss and grief as well,

A time to move more deeply into love's arms.

Moments of grief,

Pain,

Tragedy awaken us to the depth of connection we share with each other,

Whether we want that connection or not.

The more we begin to see the binds that tie us together,

Not as shackles,

But as connections,

The more we are free to love through love's own eyes.

No matter where you are standing,

Sitting,

Lying down,

Crawling on this journey right now,

Love,

God,

Goddess,

The Divine is with you,

With us,

Always and in all ways.

Take a deep breath in,

And exhale,

And breathing in deeply once more,

And exhaling fully.

I'd like to close with a poem by Hafiz,

A Sufi poet.

The poem is called The Stairway of Existence.

We are not in pursuit of formalities or fake religious laws.

For through the stairway of existence,

We have come to God's door.

We are people who need to love because love is the soul's life.

Love is simply creation's greatest joy.

Through the stairway of existence,

Oh through the stairway of existence Hafiz,

Have you now come,

Have we all now come to the Beloved's door?

So,

My loving,

Beautiful,

Community of friends here,

If you,

Like Hafiz,

Find yourself at the door,

And it is closed,

Just knock,

She will let you in.

Thank you for joining me here today.

I hope your day is filled with blessings from both friend and stranger,

From human and animal,

From fairy and divine,

May you be blessed and loved.

Namaste.
