This poem is an inspiration of connection with relationship to Mother Earth, her people, and all living life that lives on her. Sometimes we forget that She is a living force beneath us, that She feeds us, nourishes us and is connected to all we are. By remembering this relationship and by honoring our connection to her, it restores balance in our lives. This poem is shared in a dramatic voice with inspired music to invoke strong feelings to wake up the senses and help us remember.

Hi,

I'm grateful that you're joining me today.

I thought that I would share a few thoughts with you about this particular piece.

Earth Drummer is a poem that I wrote 10 years ago.

It is written with the belief that we are all connected to Mother Earth and to her rhythm,

Her heartbeat.

And by all,

I mean people,

Animals,

Plants,

Trees,

Flowers,

Birds.

All living things are part of this dance of life.

Sometimes when we get too busy to slow down,

To feel our connection with our mother,

We suffer from feeling disconnected.

And in turn,

She suffers too.

I wrote this poem to honor Mother Earth as well as the first people,

Those who lived in balance with the planet and her web of life.

I would like to share that this poem was brought to life with the help of Chris Collins and his music.

The music that you will hear behind the poem being played today is one of his compositions.

I allow the music to guide the rhythm of the poem to bring it to life.

So the music is as important to this piece as the work itself.

This is a more dramatic poem along with the music and is meant as an inspirational piece to honor Mother Earth.

I would like to mention as well that the opening of this piece is just music that guides us into the beginning of the poem.

I hope you enjoy this and I'm grateful that you are here to listen.

May this piece inspire you to live a connected life with all that is around you.

Now let's move into the poem.

Earth drummer,

Feel the beat.

Let the rhythm roll underneath your feet.

Earth drummer,

Steps on top of Mother Earth's seeds as they fall to the ground.

Take root,

Growing new life all around.

Earth drummer,

Feel the beat.

Let the rhythm roll underneath your feet.

Thank you for this food.

Thank you for this life.

Thank you,

Dear universe,

For this bounty that helps us all survive.

Earth drummer,

Feel the beat.

Let the rhythm roll underneath your feet.

Earth drummer,

Lift the spirit of all ancestors present day and past.

People of all colors,

People of all shapes,

People of all faces,

People from all faiths.

Earth drummer,

Feel the beat.

Let the rhythm roll underneath your feet.

Earth drummer,

Call on those we cherish in life.

The owl,

Coyote,

Hummingbird,

Buffalo,

And fish,

Whom we could not live without.

Earth drummer,

Feel the beat.

Let the rhythm roll underneath your feet.

Earth drummer,

Step in time with this musical beat.

Earth drummer,

Step in time with this musical beat.

Earth drummer,

Trip into the rhythm.

Let it set your soul free.

May we carry these words to remember those around us,

Living and gone.

May we remember those who gave us life from the earth,

Who created this song through us.

May we remember.

May we remember that all life is sacred,

Moving around us,

Through us,

With us.

And may we know that all these lives,

Human,

Animal,

Plant,

Sea,

Bird,

Sky,

That all of it creates who we are.

Earth drummer,

Step in time with this musical beat.

Earth drummer,

Step in time with this musical beat.

Earth drummer,

Step in time with this musical beat.

Earth drummer,

Trip into the rhythm.

Let it set your soul free.

Let it set your soul free.

Thank you, Shannon, for this dramatic reading of your poem! I feel very connected to Mother Earth and to the First People who knew how we are all one with her! We need this poem so at this time! The music was superb!

Beautiful homage to the Great Earth Mother and to the understanding and wisdom of the First Peoples. We would all do well to listen and learn from their ancestral knowledge. Both music and text came together sublimely and I was carried away as I closed my eyes in the misty sunrise. Thank you for this gift you have both shared. Thank you Earth Mother. I see the shimmering starlight in you all. 🀲🏻❀️🀲🏻
