Ventured up to Tuen Mun today to record Mic on Cafeteria Beach. Today was especially sunny and absolutely beautiful. Breezes blew and kept us cool as we recorded by the ocean. I again laid the microphones down on the ground to capture more of the bowl sounds. Curious birds chirped as they played in the sand. The beat of a boat motor in passing. The rumble of distant planes on their final approach. Not a single sound was out of place. Mic plays the bowls beautifully in a very relaxed and slow manner in tempo with the waves. I loved how she would play with the harmonics of two bowls sustaining the tone and adjusting the intensity. I saw her lean over the bowls to hear them better as if needing their sound as inspiration to create. She let the wind play her chimes as she moved it from side to side. It is an amazing portrait of a moment in time.
