Let your body find a position where it can be still,
And let it be held by whatever is beneath you.
Let your eyes close.
Or let your gaze soften.
This time,
We're going to reach your vagus nerve a different way,
Through a longer,
Physiological kind of sigh.
Breathe in through the nose,
Then take a second small sip of air right on top of it.
One,
Two,
Three.
Now let it all go in one long,
Slow exhale through the mouth.
6,
5,
4,
3,
2,
1.
That double inhale,
Single long exhale.
It's one of the fastest ways to tell an anxious body that the moment has passed.
Let's do that again.
In and a second small sip on top.
And let it go,
Slow and complete.
Now bring two fingers to the soft part of your ear,
Right where it meets your jaw.
Gently massage there in small,
Slow circles.
The spot sits right along the vagus nerve,
Close enough to the surface that a light touch can reach it.
There's no technique to get right here.
Just contact.
Just attention.
Notice,
As you continue,
Whether anything in the chest or the throat has started to loosen.
If it's available to you,
Let your body sway gently side to side at whatever slow pace feels natural.
That small rhythm is its own kind of regulation,
The body rocking itself the way it might once have been rocked.
Let your hand come to rest.
Let the sway settle.
Notice what's here now.
That wasn't here when we started.
Whatever that is,
However small.
It's real.
And it's yours.
When you're ready,
Let your breath return to its own rhythm.
And when it feels right.
Let your eyes open.
This is available to you.
Anytime your body Needs reminding,
But it's safe.
