Today we're talking about your true identity.
Your true identity.
Know your essence.
As you move through your life you will claim many identities and belong to many tribes.
At some point however you realize this is not you being authentic,
This is you being confused.
When you begin the process of dropping all identities one after another you reveal your true essence which is you as a soul.
Let the rest go.
The universe.
Now there's a lot of folks who have spoken about this idea of as we get older we start to know ourselves better and one of the ways I like to think about it is up to about age and I know it kind of depends for each person but I'd say up to age 50 we're sort of adding on identities and stuff experiences and after age 50 we're letting go of our identities and our stuff and actually our experiences also to some degree.
This idea that the personality builds and builds and builds itself to a certain point and then as we begin to look at our mortality which you start to do in the 50s in a pretty pretty intense way you just start to drop away who you're not.
You start to drop away all the stuff you thought you needed to have.
All these these badges and markers of success or maybe you didn't have success but you have badges and markers of who you think you are and it just all starts to drop away.
You start to step into who you really are and so especially around the time of the 20s through the 40s maybe it's really an active time for exploring identities and by identities I don't necessarily mean like gender identity although that could be part of it but it's like you'll you join groups and you have relationships that open a certain part of yourself or maybe you're in you know these groups that you call your tribe filled with other people like yourself and that's normal it's like you're figuring out who am I.
Maybe you go to a yoga group or you go to an ecstatic dance group or you go to an art group or a book club and and you're and these are just you know some a few examples you're you're on a sports team or you support a sports team or you work for a company that you you know relate to a lot.
So again these identities start to pile on and you start to relate yourself to you know I work for this company I support this team in my off hours I go to this exercise group I belong to this church and so on and so forth but none of that is your essence that's just what you're doing or what you're involved in none of that's your essence even people that have really deep religious practices maybe they're Buddhist or maybe they're Hindu maybe they follow the American versions of those practices in groups even this work that I do spiritual intuition it's even for people that deeply follow different systems of belief that also is not it's not your true essence.
Your true essence is soul and you can define this define this in a Buddhist way of looking at soul which would be true nature the Hindu way the Catholic way the Jewish way the the way that I look at things in spiritual intuition which I'm not maybe we'd call that sort of the New Age way and on and on all these ways.
So when you understand that those things that you're interested in it's just way a way of exploring but it's not who you are.
Who you are is more closely related to who you were when you were very first born and you really didn't have a fully formed personality based on other people's input you just had your core personality and you had your core soul that was still able to remember what life was like in life between lifetimes or beyond the veil.
You're fresh newborn you're very pure you've got complete connection to the universe and this is sort of what you had to as you move into your older age fifties and over not that fifties is very old or even any of it's very old but you start to become more of this self this pure essence self not swayed by what others tell you or what others tell you you are not swayed by the groups you're in.
Just sort of this detached self experiencing life in your own way and having the soul be the part this part that's connected to the universe becoming the most important aspect of your experience.
So this one line in this teaching at some point so as you move through life you claim many identities and belong to many tribes at some point however you realize this is not you being authentic this is you being confused.
So if you've been in a lot of groups and a lot of extroverted people really love you know to be in groups because they like the energy introverted people might be on online groups it would just be useful to recognize that even though we're all one and even though it's really lovely to connect with people who have similar belief systems if all that were taken away if all those groups disappeared you would still exist you would still exist you would still exist as soul and begin to sort of sort through to understand your true identity outside of all these groups and tribes and belief systems.
