Welcome,

Friends.

Welcome to a very special journey to a very sacred place.

Today we will journey to the White Spring in Glastonbury,

Also known as Avalon.

This is considered to be a very special and healing place.

The beautiful Isle of Avalon.

There's two different healing springs,

One red with iron,

The other white with calcite.

And these springs rise within just a few feet of each other from the caverns beneath Glastonbury Tor.

Both considered to have the energy of great healing and sacredness.

The Red Spring resides in the beautiful sunlit gardens of Chalice Well.

And for the White Spring,

A great temple was made,

A well-house of Victorian red brick that nestles beneath Glastonbury Tor.

The space has a great vaulted roof of three domed channels like railway tunnels.

The floors are gently bowed.

It is said this is to mimic the hull of a boat moored at the portal,

A crossing point into the other world.

It is filled with sacred pools and shrines that make it quite unlike anywhere else.

A place to honour the sacred energies and spirits of Avalon and the sacred energies and spirit inside ourselves.

I thought it would be a special way to journey into the place via meditation or story journey,

Which is what we'll do today.

I will try and recall it as best I can,

And I hope you enjoy a little chance to journey in your mind's eye.

So as always,

Take your time to find whatever comfortable place feels soothing and supportive for you.

You may let the eyes gently close or the gaze be soft.

Allow the breath to settle into easeful rhythm,

Rise and fall.

And perhaps visualise any busy thoughts of the day,

Any to-do lists or deadlines.

Gather them up and place them at the side of the room.

You can come back to them later,

But for now we take time to journey.

We start on a warm summer's day.

The sky is blue above us.

And beneath us,

Lush green grass.

You look around and see a beautiful palette of colours of wildflowers.

We will start our journey here at Chalice Well Gardens.

Sacred waters also flow through this space,

And you can hear the tinkling and trickling of spring water.

But also feel a beautiful expanse of space and growth.

This energy of fertility that arrives in early summer,

And all things are growing and blooming and blossoming.

And the trees seem to rise,

Grateful for the warming sun as they spread their leaves and branches wide.

All is peaceful in this garden.

A few people around you perhaps quietly rest and bask in the light.

Somewhere in the distance someone plays a musical instrument underneath a tree.

You feel the people here,

Like the flowers are just getting ready to unravel with the warmth of the season.

Enjoying this time to bask in light.

You feel the grass underneath your feet as we walk slowly to the bottom of the garden.

And out through the gate for a very short walk in the sunshine.

Just round the corner and up a gently sloping hill.

The wellhouse is warm,

Rich red in the sunlight,

Made of Victorian bricks.

Now ivy and vines creep over it to bring in green as well.

Outside of the wellhouse there is a little courtyard.

Where stone bowls have been set up,

Rising,

And water from the well trickles down.

Each bowl fills and then spills out into the next,

Creating a beautiful waterfall of spring water.

In a space where anyone can drink,

You splash in this beautiful sparkling water.

You approach the metal gates to the wellhouse.

We are in a small group of trusted friends.

And a wise guide is there to meet us.

They welcome us in.

It is dark inside and we walk slowly to walk down several stone steps.

The gates close behind us and the flickering of candlelight helps our eyes adjust.

Already we can hear the roaring of the spring that splashes into pools.

We take our time to absorb all the delights we can see.

Before you is a great circular pool.

A statue of two white swans lay before it as if they are taking flight from this pool of water.

To our right is the altar of the Lord of the Wild Wood.

Tucked away to our left is the altar to the Goddess,

To Mother Earth.

The ground beneath us is also red brick and shallow water trickles over it.

So we take off our shoes so that we may gently splash our feet.

We start by turning to the right.

To our left is a great tall tree trunk that has been dressed in ribbons like a maypole.

And it is so tall that it extends out through a window through the ceiling and out into sunlight that streams down into this small corner.

Beneath this great maypole tree there are offerings and altars and candles.

There is a small cauldron with paper beside it.

You may write down anything you might wish to let go of or offer in burning.

You take a moment to write upon the paper,

Set it alight from a nearby candle and let it curl and burn in the cauldron.

From here we walk along the right side wall into the far corner where we find an altar to the Lord of the Wild Wood.

Wooden statues create a doorway.

Antlers and candles and an antlered figure holding candles welcome you into this space of wild wonder.

From the Wild Wood altar you may journey back to that centre point with the entrance gates behind you and the circular pool before you.

It may be some of your companions stand in the knee deep water of this circular pool and hold hands and begin to sing.

Your wise guide might have a singing bowl or an instrument to bring music to this space.

From here you feel,

You hear that the great vaulted ceilings of red brick above you are creating an acoustic hug.

Arms of sound wrap around you with a chorus of spirits and angels.

The sound envelops you.

You know there is no rush.

You have places yet to see before you immerse yourself in the water.

So we turn left to see the altar of the Goddess.

Tucked away,

An archway made of wicker creates a safe space decorated with ribbons and cloutines and you are drawn into this wicker room space.

The lantern burns and flickers before the most beautiful painting of the Goddess.

In a purple cape,

Heart shining out,

Radiating and in her palms,

Fire.

She holds this space as kindly mother,

As kindly host to this sacred time.

As you prepare to leave this bower of the Goddess,

You turn and journey along the left wall.

Three stepped pools are filled with cascading water from the spring that rises high in the wall.

As the water comes down it cascades and tinkles and splatters,

Making rich sounds,

Amplified by the singing and music around you.

Of these stepped pools,

The top one is the deep plunging pool where one may immerse themselves beneath.

You take your time to undress or dress as you wish,

To carefully make your way up the stepped pools.

You sit on the edge,

Dipping your legs in the water is fresh,

Sparkling,

Sending ripples of chill and excitement through you.

As you find your footing in the water,

And if you wish,

You may dunk yourself fully in the waters for the briefest of moments,

Allowing the dark,

Holding Goddess waters to hold you completely for a moment of silence and a moment of healing.

You rise up out of the water with a gasp,

Fresh and tingling all over.

Now you slowly make your way back down the stepped pools and into the central pool.

Your friends are waiting in this knee deep water and they widen their circle and you all hold hands.

What a place,

What a journey.

When the time comes,

You and your companions step out of the circular pool and wrap yourself in the softest,

Warmest clothes.

You laugh and chat,

The music and the water and this special experience has raised your spirits so high.

A gong is sounded,

Our time in this place of the White Spring is coming to a close,

But you feel very confident that you will be returning here.

As the metal gates open once more,

The sunlight streams in.

And as you leave the splashing waters and the candlelight,

You move out into the light and are met with the warmth of a bright summer's day.

Walking gently back to the chalice well to sit upon the grass as your journey comes full circle and the sun shines on you once more.

Thank you so much for joining me on this special and personal meditation of my own journey into the White Spring and it was an honour to bring you with me.

I hope that the rest of your day is filled with hope and light and great magic.

And I look forward to meeting you again one day in the magic of the White Spring.

Farewell for now.
