Greetings,
Goddesses.
So today's Divine Feminine Archetype is one I will call the Lady of the Hearth.
These are the Goddesses of Hearth and Home.
The Goddesses that keep the heart of homes burning bright.
The Goddess specifically we'll explore in today's meditation is Hestia,
The Greek Goddess of Hearth and Home.
And her name in Greek means both half,
Fire and altar,
Which I think is very interesting that those three words mean something very similar.
So where we create the warmth in our homes can also be our altar.
Where we create our meals can also be a sacred space.
So for Hestia she was honoured in the hearth fire burning in every home in ancient Greece.
And sacred hearth fires were tended within her temples.
Offerings of sweet wine and food were made in her name.
But despite this,
Hestia isn't mentioned a lot in the text of Greek mythology.
Today she was not considered a particularly significant deity in Greek myth and she doesn't feature in Homer's Odyssey and she's seldom represented in works of art.
I find this fascinating on many levels.
Mainly because she is the Goddess of her own house,
Her own home,
Which would have been Mount Olympus where all the gods and goddesses of ancient Greece live.
And because she was the goddess of this household she didn't leave that often.
So her presence in sweeping tales of mythology is small because she was at home making dinner.
I think we can all relate to that.
Homemaking in general and cooking and cleaning are things that go on in the background of our busy,
Noisy lives.
To tend your hearth is not necessarily a big or adventurous undertaking but it is powerful and sacred.
So maybe next time you are tending your home and hearth or cleaning or tidying,
Light a candle or play some music as you work.
These tasks won't make the history books of myth and legend but the magic of creating our home is precious and in its own way small acts of love,
Kindness and homemaking are the most special goddess magic of all.
Little doses of connections to the goddess,
Connections to Hestia,
Making our life sweet and sacred for ourselves and others.
So with that in mind we'll take some time to settle and get ready for our lovely Hestia themed meditation today.
And our meditation will be a simple one in theme.
What the goddess Hestia suggests to us is that wholeness can be nurtured when we learn to come home to ourselves and only then can we create a home that will nurture us.
So let's allow the body to settle and relax.
Let's allow ourselves to rest and relax wherever we are.
Allow yourself to be warm and comfortable.
From here if it is comfortable to do so,
Rest your hands upon your tummy just above your belly button.
This is our solar plexus chakra.
This is our inner hearth,
Our inner flame,
Our inner fire and our inner altar.
These are the flames of energy and light that burn within us.
And here we can feel the weight of our hands on top of our tummy,
Our solar plexus.
And we can feel the gentle rhythm,
The rise and fall of the breath underneath the hands.
And as you find this connection we'll envisage our solar plexus as light or flames or sparkle.
You may envisage a colour,
Maybe oranges and yellows and the colours of fire.
And there's a gentle steady flame burning within us.
And as we take the time to draw in our attention,
To draw in our awareness to these flames,
We are stoking our inner fire.
We are tending our inner hearth.
As we draw our attention away from the comings and goings of the day,
From activities and tasks that maybe drain our energy in some way.
Old hurts or anxieties that can drain us or challenge us.
Or simply distractions of thoughts that jump around in our mind.
These can all be exhausting.
So we'll take a break.
Press pause on the outside world and we will draw all of our energy,
All of our awareness inwards to stoke this fire within our tummy,
Underneath our hands.
And as we continue to draw our energy and attention,
The flames go brighter,
Glowing,
Shining.
This glow and warmth and light grows and grows,
Expanding out from our tummy through our chest and heart,
Hips,
Legs,
Through our shoulders and arms and up through our neck.
This beautiful expansion of light sends the flames from the centre of our being all the way to the tips of our toes,
The tips of our fingers and the top of our head.
So that we are aglow with warmth and light.
We are aglow with our own inner fire,
Our own goddess energy.
Glowing and alight with love.
To give you plenty of time to bring your energy home,
To bring your love home to yourself and to simply bask in this light and warmth.
I will simply let the music play.
So though in a moment I will leave you,
The goddess,
The light,
The love will still be here and you can stay here as long as you wish,
Basking,
Arriving home.
Joyful in your connection and reconnection to your own inner hearth and inner fire as you become your very own lady of the hearth.
Jim.
