The ego is often described as the part of you that wants to push itself to the forefront - with its structures of protection, alarm bells over past or future experiences, and misleading guidance. Recognizing the ego is simple; every time you feel less or more (inferior or superior) to someone or something, it is your constructed idea of self-talk. In this dialogue, I am lovingly conversing with my ego taking back the wheel of my own mind. Hopefully, it shows you the courage to do the same.

Dear ego,

Why are you so sad?

Because I hate you right now.

Why do you hate me?

You are giving me stuff I don't like.

Like what?

Stuff I don't know.

New words,

New actions,

All kinds of emotions.

It feels like you're betraying me.

I feel attacked.

Dear ego,

I don't want to attack you.

I'm just exploring new paths.

What kind of new paths?

Am I not enough for you?

Have you found a better place?

No.

I just want to grow and move forward.

Listening to you keeps me in the same place.

Next to you there's my soul.

My soul wants attention too.

It wants love.

Okay so you're cheating on me with your soul?

I served you like a dog for years.

Or maybe that's it.

Maybe I want to start serving myself instead of listening to you all day.

Alright so what's there to serve?

Love,

Compassion,

Gratitude,

Debt,

Forgiveness,

Calmness,

Safe places.

A lot of other dishes besides anger,

Regret,

Envy,

Control,

Competition,

Protection.

And you're definitely not a dog.

Don't feel dumped.

I want you to see everything can coexist within me,

Within my wholeness as a young being.

Well fine,

But I'm just going to keep cooking fear for the unknown for you.

You've created me,

Remember?

Well to be honest,

I didn't create you.

Everything around me,

My experiences,

My conditioning,

Everything I based my identity on created you.

And besides that,

Well if you want to cook up fear,

It's welcome at the table.

There's enough room for everyone.

Well I can tell you this,

You're going to regret choosing a new restaurant,

Man.

Could be.

But I know for sure that I'll regret ignoring not choosing a new restaurant to eat.

It's just not the two of us anymore.

You have to try to adapt to new company.

Can't you see I'm hurting right now?

Oh yeah,

You're hurting because I'm not feeding you.

Well,

Whatever your plan is,

Just be there for me.

I need you.

Of course,

My dear loyal ego,

We are friends for life.

Just don't try to direct my every step by fear.

I'm going to need some time to digest all this.

Absolutely.

Whatever you need.

I know everything you do is out of protection,

But I'm going to teach myself how to protect my inner world from now on.

So what am I to you?

Dear ego,

You are the reason I chose to expand,

To broaden my senses.

You were there when I was most vulnerable and unaware.

You didn't cause my pain.

I did by not simply embracing you more often.

Thank you for saying that.

So how will our relationship continue?

Well it's going to continue in terms of mutual respect,

Some basic rules and a lot of freedom.

Because I'm surrendering to both your protection and my own path of being.

You can still try to scare me,

But I'm choosing to put water in your wine.

Let's have dialogues from now on.

I love you.

I love me.

Thank you.
