I invite you to first take a moment to settle in.
Bring your awareness to your breath,
Noticing as you're paying attention.
Your breath begins to slow down as you inhale and exhale.
Give yourself permission to arrive fully in this moment and allow the noise of the day to quiet as you prepare to receive the Word of God.
Biblical meditation is the practice of holding God's Word in our minds and hearts and returning to it again and again,
Allowing it to shape how we think,
Feel,
And live.
I invite you to sit with this scripture and let it speak to where you are in life.
The meditation is called Come and Listen from Psalm 66,
16 through 20.
I'll be your guide by your side as you listen and digest the same scripture from three different translations.
Simply listen with your soul to Psalm 66,
16 through 20 from the New Living Translation.
Come and listen,
All you who fear God,
And I will tell you what he did for me.
For I cried out to him for help,
Praising him as I spoke.
If I had not confessed the sin in my heart,
The Lord would not have listened.
But God did listen.
He paid attention to my prayer.
Praise God,
Who did not ignore my prayer or withdraw his unfailing love from me.
Reflect as you hear Psalm 66,
16 through 20 again in the amplified version,
Noting what words and phrases stand out to you.
Come and hear all who fear God and worship him with all inspired reverence and obedience,
And I will tell you what he has done for me.
I cried aloud to him.
He was highly praised with my tongue.
If I regard sin and baseness in my heart,
That is if I know it is there and do nothing about it,
The Lord will not hear me.
But certainly God has heard me.
He has given heed to the voice of my prayer.
Blessed be God,
Who has not turned away my prayers nor his loving kindness from me.
Take a moment to internalize Psalm 66,
16 through 20 in the message version,
Allowing it to settle in your spirit as you inquire of the Lord for him to reveal what it means to you.
All believers,
Come here and listen.
Let me tell you what God did for me.
I called out to him with my mouth.
My tongue shaped the sounds of music.
If I had been cozy with evil,
The Lord would never have listened.
But he most surely did.
He most surely did listen.
He came on the double when he heard my prayer.
Blessed be God.
He didn't turn a deaf ear.
He stayed with me,
Loyal in his love.
I encourage you to carry this word with you.
Return to it over and over.
Let it meet you in moments of tension as it reminds you where you can rest your mind in God.
As we come to the close of this biblical meditation,
I pray,
May this word take root in your heart.
May it guide your thoughts and steady your spirit.
And may you walk in peace,
Anchored in God's presence.
In Jesus name.
Amen.
