The way we experience the world changes when we change the way we engage with the world. This meditative practice includes a brief experiential exercise that reminds us that we are free to change. There's time in stillness before closing with a Practical Prayer inviting guidance, support and uplift in our lives. Music composed for this meditation by Stu Shames.

Let's consider that the way we engage with the world changes the way we feel about the way the world is showing up for us.

As an example,

I'd just like you to make a fist with your hands.

Squeeze down really tight,

Clench your fist,

Grab as hard as you can,

Feel the pressure,

Feel the strength that's in there.

Squeeze.

And now,

Release.

And feel the difference.

As you open your palms,

As you relax yourself,

You feel the tension move away,

And it's different.

And now,

Once again,

Clench your fist,

Squeeze down really hard.

It's a familiar feeling at this point.

Feel the strength that you have.

Feel your forearms.

Feel your biceps.

Feel the strength and the power that you bring to this moment,

To this situation.

And then,

Open your hands.

Let it go.

Become open and receptive.

Instead of grabbing on to what's around you,

Open yourself up to a brand new possibility.

If you don't already have your eyes closed,

Go ahead and close them now.

So we can turn away from the specifics and the circumstances and the situation in the world around us.

We're not hiding.

It's still there.

But there's something more that's possible.

Take a deep breath in and hold it at the top.

Feel yourself be filled.

Breathe in even a little more air.

And now let it go.

A deep,

Complete,

Full breath out.

Feel yourself become empty as you settle into the seat.

Hold that breath out.

And notice that your body is telling you when it's time to take another breath.

Invite it in.

Deep breath.

Hold at the top again.

Feel the difference.

Feel the contrast between being filled and being empty.

Another deep,

Full breath out.

Let it go.

And continue your breathing at a pace that's comfortable for you.

Engaging in the moment in a way that's exactly right for you,

For now.

And be aware that it's always possible in any moment,

In any activity,

To strive,

To reach,

To grasp,

To hold.

Perhaps even to control.

And there are other times to be open and receptive and allowing and flexible.

And it's possible to be stressed in either circumstance,

When we have to wait for something to happen that we have no control over,

Or when we have to grab on and try to be in charge of whatever's happening.

The stress is possible in either circumstance.

And so is the peace.

So,

As we go into the quiet together,

Invite in that feeling of peacefulness as you allow yourself to be filled,

As you allow yourself to empty.

Let yourself feel the tension and the power that's true of you.

And let yourself feel that release and relaxation and serenity that's also available to you.

And we'll take that together,

That delicious balance,

As we go into the quiet.

When we find ourselves in a circumstance or situation where there's more energy at hand than might be helpful,

We're always free to open,

To release,

To surrender,

To allow,

To relax.

And in circumstances where we're not sure exactly what is ours to do,

It is possible to be open to that guidance of what's next and allow the understanding of that next perfect step to become clear to us.

And then we're free to move in that direction,

To take that step,

To become co-creative partners with this infinite creative power that creates everything and to do our part in bringing this newness into being.

We are always at that balance point.

We are always at choice.

That infinite intelligence that knows everything,

That has every answer,

That is every answer,

Is always available to inform and to guide us in whatever it is that we're engaging.

So I now call upon that infinite intelligence,

That divine guidance,

On behalf of each one within the sound of my voice,

Knowing that we are each being guided and uplifted and directed and supported in experiencing our highest and best with love and ease.

And I'm so grateful to know that this good is already unfolding.

The stories are already getting ready to be told about how wonderful and transformational this process has been.

So I'm grateful for the ideas.

I'm grateful for the guidance.

I'm grateful for the willingness of each one to be able to engage this process,

To let go of that which is unnecessary and embrace what's new and what's next.

And with a deep feeling of thanks,

I speak this word and I release it into that same creative law that has created everything.

And I'm grateful to know that that law is now creating this,

For each of us,

For all of us.

And so with this deep feeling of thanks,

I speak this word,

I let it go,

And I know it's so.

And I close by saying,

And so it is.

As you're comfortable,

Allow your awareness to come back to your body.

Gently wiggle your fingers and toes,

Maybe shrug your shoulders,

And gently bring your awareness back into the world around you.
