Wild Resilience: Misogi: Where Challenge Becomes Transformation. Leave behind the familiar and step into an experience that will challenge your body, quiet your mind, and transform the way you see yourself. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Dolly Sods Wilderness, West Virginia, during the height of autumn, Wild Resilience: Misogi is our most physically demanding and deeply transformative backpacking retreat. Crisp mountain air, vibrant fall foliage, sweeping high-elevation vistas, and remote wilderness create the perfect setting for a journey that is as inward as it is outward. Inspired by the Japanese concept of Misogi—a practice of stepping beyond perceived limits to discover personal growth—this retreat invites you to embrace challenge with intention. Through the physical demands of backpacking and guided nature-informed practices, you'll uncover a resilience that cannot be learned from a book or found within the comfort of everyday life. Throughout our journey, we'll weave together guided reflection, mindfulness, somatic practices, journaling, campfire conversations, meaningful rituals, and creative expression. The trail becomes more than a destination—it becomes a mirror, revealing your strength, courage, and capacity to persevere. This is a true wilderness backpacking experience. Participants will carry everything needed for the retreat in their backpack, sleep in a tent or hammock, prepare and carry their own trail meals (supported by comprehensive packing lists, meal planning guides, and pre-retreat preparation calls), and fully immerse themselves in the beauty, challenge, and simplicity of backcountry living. The route covers up to 40 miles over four days with approximately 10,000 feet of cumulative elevation gain across rugged and varied terrain. Participants must be capable of hiking 8–10 miles per day while carrying a fully loaded backpack. A minimum fitness level of 7/10 is required, and previous multi-day backpacking experience is strongly recommended. This retreat isn't about proving anything to anyone else. It's about discovering who you become when the trail asks more of you than you thought you had to give. You'll leave with sore legs, a full heart, lifelong memories, and the unshakable confidence that comes from doing something truly difficult—and realizing you were capable all along.

Dolly Sods Wilderness is a 17,371-acre protected wilderness area within Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia. The area features high-elevation plateaus, open mountain vistas, forests, bogs, heathlands, streams and unusual plant communities resembling those found in northern Canada. With approximately 47 miles of trails, it is suitable for hiking, backpacking, nature observation, wildlife viewing, scenic walks and outdoor adventure retreats. The area is undeveloped and does not provide accommodation, restaurants, Wi-Fi or potable water, so visitors must be self-sufficient. Groups larger than 10 people are not permitted in the wilderness.
