Details
This 5-day yoga, meditation, and breathwork retreat in Algarve, Portugal is designed for people who want a structured residential retreat rather than a casual yoga holiday. The retreat takes place near Bensafrim and Lagos, in a quiet part of southern Portugal where the natural setting supports practice, rest, and reflection. October offers a softer Algarve atmosphere, with warmer days, quieter surroundings, and more space for inner attention after the peak summer season. The retreat is held across two connected retreat properties. The main practice space is Vale das Canas, a 20-hectare private estate with forest walking trails, gardens, a secluded yurt, indoor and outdoor yoga and meditation spaces, and a magnesium pool. Accommodation is supported through Quinta Fronteira, a peaceful residential extension with private studios and apartments, individual entrances, terraces or balconies, modern bathrooms, kitchenettes, outdoor dining spaces, and a saltwater pool. This combination gives the retreat both depth and comfort: a dedicated space for practice and a private space for rest between sessions. The program blends Yin Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Kundalini Yoga, pranayama, active meditation, passive meditation, yoga philosophy, guided reflection, silence, and group sharing. The intention is to help participants slow down, observe the body and mind more clearly, release accumulated tension through movement and breath, and develop simple practices that can continue after the retreat. It is suitable for beginners, returning practitioners, solo travelers, and experienced yoga students who want a clear daily rhythm and personal space for reset. The retreat is led by Sukhvinder Singh Chaitanya, founder of Yoga Chaitanya International Institute, with Jan Buis, founder of Breathing Space for breathwork, meditation, inner work, and guided reflection. Sukhvinder brings a classical yoga background with experience across Hatha, Ashtanga, Yin, Vinyasa, Iyengar, Sivananda Yoga, pranayama, Ayurveda, and applied yogic philosophy. Jan adds a grounded Western approach to breath, attention, emotional awareness, group process, and reflective inner work. Together, the retreat balances body-based practice, meditation, emotional observation, rest, and practical tools for daily life. Food is also part of the retreat rhythm. Three vegetarian Ayurvedic and yogic meals are served daily, along with filtered water, coffee, and Yoga Chaitanya herbal wellness teas. Meals are kept fresh, simple, and supportive of yoga and meditation practice. The daily structure runs from morning practice to evening meditation, with dedicated time for meals, rest, silence, and integration.

“Quinta Fronteira” is a small scale rural holiday retreat for those who seek rest and relaxation.. It is located at walking distance from Bensafrim, a friendly, sleepy Portuguese village surrounded by unspoiled nature. The lively coastal town of Lagos with its marina and variety of beaches is at 6 km. The stunning “Costa Vicentina” (surfers’) beaches are also within easy reach. A great place off the beaten track, to discover the western Algarve with it’s stunning beaches and unspoiled interior! “Quinta Fronteira” was an old farmhouse in ruins. After thoughtful renovation it now offers modern, tastefully decorated apartments and studios,. It is set in a spacious, lush garden, with a refreshing salt water pool and a BBQ and al fresco dining area. We love the place and we are happy to share it with you!
